Stupid question!

Featured Replies

Sounds simple but whereabouts on the gearbox is the oil filler plug?????

Doing my head in trying to find it.

No doubt someone will point it out (with piccies) and it will be bleeding obvious.

Its at front of gearbox take the bottom cover off, its an allen key fit by the looks of it.This is the level check and filler hole. There should be an s bend metal tube directly in front of it.

Would recommend getting a haynes manual, they are very good.

A thousand thanks for that:thumbup:

Much appreciated but cant believe 41 people viewed and only 1 answer:thumbdwn:

The s bend tube for reference is a PAS pipe ;)

No point posting after viewing it if I don't know the answer though :P

And the transfer box has a seperate drain and filler iirc but shares the same oil.

Thanks Lummox,

Fountain of knowledge:)

In the absence of a Haynes manual, whats the best way to remove the inner CV joint from the drive shaft?

Regards,

Steve

Ahh is this why your asking about the oil level?

Planning to change the oil or are you worried about leakage?

Lummox you win a coconut!

Both of the above:thumbup:

Cheers,

Steve

Well technically when removing the drive shaft you wont loose any oil. The drive shaft simply unbolts leaving the output flange in the gearbox or transfer box depending on which side your doing.

Removing the shaft is fairly simple.

1. Undo drive shaft nut

2. Undo anti roll bar link

3. Remove 13mm ball joint bolts

4. Undo M8 or M10 spline bolts from drive shaft to flange (x6)

5. Disconnect hub from wishbone and pull out.

6. Slide out CV joint out of hub (may need persuasion from a soft drift)

7. Withdraw drive shaft

The joint itself just knocks off with a copper faced mallet, no secret circlips.
