Featured Replies

I have a 2006 4x4 that has done 16,000 miles. Swopping round the wheels yesterday noticed excessive wear on the inside of both front wheels.

Is this normal?

I doubt it. The front tyres on my Elegance have maintained uniform tread depth for the whole 37000 miles of their life, 28,000 on the rear approx 9,000 on the front. Previous fronts also retained uniform tread depth throughout their life.

Thanks, I was expecting the wear to be slightly harder as it is front wheel drive but not as bad as this, looking at a new set of tyres in the next 2000 miles.

This subject has been covered before but not specific to the 4x4. Inner tyre wear is an issue that Skoda are aware of and as such there is a TSB recomending a change of the camber values.

Details can be found here.

I thought the TSB only referred to the REAR wheels, unless theres a different one for fronts....Bhud is having issues with his front ones :)

just to add to this thread i checked my tyres today and the fronts are worn on the inside edge to the point of needing replacement. The rears have even wear and ive done about 8000 since getting the car (14000 miles in total since new) so it looks like the rear camber is ok. Ive got the pegasus 17's by the way.

After having a search it seems a few people here have had the inner go on the fronts so is it worth a dealer visit and if so should i keep the tyres on to show them before getting them replaced?

... off to research the best tyres to get ....

Car returned to dealer, they found wheels set within tolerances.

Now looking for a hard wearing set of tyres Michelins me thinks. Thanks for those who lent their assistance.

Warm regards

On the front tyres, excess wear on the inside edge is normally an indicator of not enough toe in / too much toe out. Excess wear on the outside is normally the opposite.

I would take the car for anther check somewhere else (a tyre dealer) and have a recheck before you waste anymore tyres.

an update from me. i popped into the dealers to ask about the wear on the inner fronts and they just said it was tracking and offered to do it for

I had a similar problem to this on a Scooby where the wheel alignment was set up as per the book but it consistently wore out the inside edges of the front tyres. Some dealers were aware of the problem accentuated by hard acceleration and compensated for the wear by adding a degree or so of toe in (or was it toe out? Can't remember).
