The Belgians are coming!

Hello Briskodians!

As you can derive from the topic title, I live in Belgium, more precise in the Flanders (Dutch-speaking) region, in the city of Kortrijk.

As I'm not used to writing in English, I'd like to apologize for any mistakes I make in that matter.

Last year I bought my own Skoda Octavia II Combi 1.9 TDI DSG Ambiente (Graphite Grey metallic, 16" Sirius rims, Climatronic, Cruise Control...), after having driven a then 16 years old Toyota Starlet automatic for almost 5 years. Rust became visible at the wheel housings of the Starlet, there was almost no profile left on the tires, the suspension got worn out and after an emergency break on the motorway, which resulted in blocking all 4 wheels, burning up my tires on the asphalt and nearly crashing into the back of a Range Rover Sport, I figured out I either had to put some money in the Starlet or else buy me something new.

I decided to get myself a new ride, a station wagon with a diesel engine and automatic transmission and airco for less than 20,000 euros and having good looks. First options were a Ford Focus II Clipper, a Totyota Corolla Wagon, an Opel Astra Break and of course a Skoda Octavia II Combi. The local Skoda dealer didn't have an Octavia with DSG to test drive, so I had to go to the importer in Brussels to try one out. Even though I couldn't drive faster than 50 km/h due to the heavy traffic in the capital aera, I was convinced by the TDI-DSG combination.

I have my Octavia for 10 months now and about 19,000 kilometers. Unfortunately I already had 2 accidents with it. One after only two weeks when I hit a concrete letterbox while driving backwards of a driveway. This was on the symbolic date of 06/06/2006... I started to turn a little to early to the right and hit the letterbox with the left front side of the car, resulting in damage to the bodywork, bumper and left headlight. The second accident happened just 6 months and 6 days later (12/12/2006) on a motorway intersection, where I got hit by a bus on the right side just above the rear wheel, while changing lanes.

Recently, my Octavia is seen together with the brand new black Fabia Combi "Tour the France" of a friend. ;)

Thomas.
