Suitable induction hose

Featured Replies

The induction hose to my PiperX Viper has freyed, worn and got holes in it for less than 5 months use  in a few different places :finger:.

Although its now tastefully restored in black ductape can anyone recommend a thicker more durable material?

Cheers all

There is a plumber's tape, which can be had in black or white. It's resistant, to water, seal's gaps, very strong, and can also be used as Insulation tape. I'll find out the name of it tomorrow.

I'd go for the PD160 air intake & green filter or similar in the standard airbox myself.

Works well, looks stock, and actually takes in cool air rather than from under-bonnet, which based on a little check yesterday, is basically pretty darn hot air

That's all well saying that... But he already has this filter. I wouldn't change it personally.

Simple hose ducting from B & Q might be a better option. And if you're wondering on looks, then just take the time to respray it.

Whats the diameter?

I have used hoover hose with great effect before. It usually about 50mm in dia and you can get it really cheap at the tip (Like free as there are always hoovers there!)

Hoover hose gets my vote in that case too. I've got heat shielding on mine as well (I know PD160 intake on mine, but might work just as well on a hoover hose :D )

I'm going to stick the standard box back on and treat myself to the 160 pipe already having the trumpet.

I've just had the car serviced and the Viper filter was cleaned but I need to re-seat the bloody thing AGAIN.

I let you know if I notice a performance gain or loss, certainly won't miss the fiddling.

Thanks for your help and advice anyhow.

Deal is done.

Standard filter box is in with the PD160 intake instead of the Viper - can't say I've noticed a jot of difference between the two - apart from the chuffing price and it looks a lot more standard now under the bonnet.

Getting a nice panel filter to ease the breathing now.

The Viper did give a growl but I'm not fussed in my tractor GTI about noise.

For info the best stuff is Wryem hose from Arco... have used it historically on the intake on the Mazda and no problems... its internally wired so can withstand vacuum.

Green's induction hoses are very good. Really strong, flexible but stays smooth on the inside to help airflow.
