If not the vRS than what?

Featured Replies

Spent the day washing and polishing the vRS (Mark 1)...Looks good odd chip here and there but after 3 and a half years and 32 K its held up well.

Brakes are now the problem, they passed the MOT but the disks are badly worn. Doing some deep thinking:-

Replace Disks+re-map+new Tyres

Buy NEW vRS

Or seek new car other than Skoda?

Skoda are good, not Jap standard but good, but Skoda not offering DSG has upset me...Some what. The vRS is NOT a bargin any more either. That leaves the "Rebuild" option or look else where.

Noticed the Pug 207 GTI, 175 bhp (more on super leaded as am told the engine has a knock senser) Pugs build Q is not that great, but the car is built in Easten Euroland and mosty from BMW parts built HERE.

The Engine is the new light weight compact Mini-cooper unit, duel scroll turbo, 180 flbs @ 1700 rpm! Better news is that in 3rd, 4th,5th it makes 195 flbs! Am told a 200 bhp kit will be ready soon. Even with out its over 200 Kgs lighter than the vRS.

Price seems good, list is

Good looking, good crash tests, BMW engine (state of the Art Turbo)

Nope, looks good.

Mike

One of either Golf GTi (checkout Motorpoint - £16.5K), Golf GTi ED30, or Golf R32 (MP £21.5K) would be my choice if I didn't need the practicality of the Octavia.

There's a lot to be said for the Focus ST but it's not for me. Alternatively the Megane 230 is well rated at the moment as is the new Civic Type R.

It really depends on what your requirements and your budget are really.

On the subject of the VRs being a 'bargain' I've never seen it as such although it speaks for itself when it undercuts the equivalent Golf GTi by £4K+.

Yup, its nice looking. Still don't think its that practical though.

The video was in French? What does RC stand for?

If you think its got all you need, then thats the acid test

The new Impreza is due out later this year and it's a hatchback. The WRX come with 225bhp and of course 4WD.

There'll be no DSG though before you ask.

Have you seen the new Impreza? It's an abomination! And I like Imprezas. It apparently will not be sold with a WRX trim due to CO2 emissions. It will have base models and STi's in order that the average CO2 output accross the range meets the new EC standard.

Don't dismiss the new vRS. I had a mk1 and have now had my TDi vRS for a few days and am blown away by the quality of the package. It's not a hot hatch - far too big for that tag, but it's a refined and complete package. I will need an exciting weekend car to go beside it but for everyday 90% of car usage, it's excellent!

It's just different. Are you referring to the Autoexpress pictures?

The new Imprezza is absolutely awfull to look at. With £20 in pocket for a second car it is a second hand EVO all the way for me.

And the Octavia is a style icon right?

PS I'm not sure you'll get one for £20.

lol's £20k

Performance of course doesn't need style but that new Imprezza is simply taking the mickey.

That's been said about all the Impreza's...... And each time they've been brought out. They sell pretty well! I like the new Impreza.

Steve

But AE is the daily Star of the motoring press!

Steve

Interesting, so does that therefore mean the fact that the Octavia came No.1 in their driver power survey is not credable?

For me, AE is credible for reviews, but perhaps not always for news of new models, and what they'll look like!

Steve

I must admit their sneak previews of what new models will look like is often wrong. I remember the pictures they released claiming to be of the new TT and they blatently didn't look anything like it turned out to be!

This will kill the new Imprezza
