Changing Head Unit in Fabia

Featured Replies

Just got my Fabia Elegance and was wondering about changing the head unit. What can I put in without blowing the speakers? If I was to change do I need to let my insurance company know? I am not thinking of putting anything really expensive in, say

No head unit will blow your speakers - you're more likely to damage your speakers running a head unit which is not powerful enough.

You should tell you're insurance company if you make any chances to the car, but whether you do or not is your choice...

Have a word with andy_ccr, he should be able to recommend something to meet your needs and at a competitive price.

Rob.

I'd recommend my HU but it was a smidge over

Depending on where you live, I would go for the Blaupunkt woodstck in either 52 or 53 guise (both are DAB radios with Mp3 cd and a SD/MMC card slot. The 53 has a different front panel and the ability to record the DAB signal).

If you live in an area with bad DAB reception Alpine and Kenwood units seem to be quite popular on here.

I'd reccomend mine, but again is just a little over the 200 notes budget! :P

I'd usually reccomend anything from the big 3 really. Kenwood, Pioneer and Alpine. For MP3, I think JVC do an MP3 compatible player for about that kind of budget. Not sure what they are like though. Blaupunkt is another worth considering. There are a few owners of such HU's on here.

I had fancied the Blaupunkt DAB headunit, and asked the dealer as it is listed in the Skoda accessories catalogue. They quoted about

Most HU's come with necessary adapting cables, but be warned, you may need a powered signal amplifier (looks a little like a vibrato.. a pen) and goes between the HU and the car's antenna lead. I needed one for my new HU to get a radio signal at all, but luckily there was one attached still to the old HU. result!

I have a Sony CDX-MP40 which would be well within your budget. Mine plays any MP3 I've ever thrown at it including some huge files of half hour radio programmes. There's quite a good choice of player that does MP3s now. If I were buying now I'd be tempted by a Blaupunkt (see range at http://www.bluespot.co.uk) or Pioneer (nice example here).

Have a look at earlier threads here for info on what (if any) adaptors you need.

As for analogue v digital, I'd imagine it's a similar situation to digital TV. If reception is poor, analogue will still work but with interference and poor sound quality whereas digital won't work at all.

Hmm, we do the Woodstock just slightly less than

Yes Manny has the beesting, and so does Jon (Tavia RS), but you do notice the difference in length on the fabia. If you fit the aerial that comes with it to the top right of the front windsrcreen, it doesn't look out of place and it still works fine without the antenna on it as well.

It is just a small black square and could be anything.

Yes, I have the combined am/fm/dab beesting aerial. its about 2 inches longer than the standard furby one. You can get just the HU for
