Engine mount gone?

Featured Replies

Managed to find a post by someone else that describes the same symptoms I've currently got where when changing gear (up, not down) when you press the clutch there's a clunk from around the passenger footwell/ centre console area. That particular post described a broken engine mount.

Can I ask, is there a mount around that area and if so is it a common fault for it to go?

The car is not remapped or anything by the way.

Thanks,

Chris.

Yes.. the engine stabilizer mount is around there, the bushes can sometimes split.. ive been through a couple of them in mine

you can check it by trying to rock the engine back and forth...

but also check the wheels, worn wishbone bushes have similar simptoms

Ahh ok, righto. I'll have a wiggle on the engine tomorrow. The car has 34k on it....I doubt bushes would be covered under warranty would they?

Thanks for your help.....it's just started making the noise over the last couple of weeks and it's bugging me now. Changing gear is no longer the pleasure it used to be. :(

By the way, is this the 'dogbone' mount?

By the way, is this the 'dogbone' mount?

Yes , otherwise called an engine/transmission roll restrictor , bolts from the bottom of the gearbox to the subframe

it has been known for the front engine mount to fail aswell

I don't think it's a dogbone mount in this case ric. It's a Fabia, nearside front engine mount.

The fault is described and pictured here - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/gearbox-rattle-vrs-recall/60848/?highlight=grease

On the subject of engine mounts....

I know the gearbox one can sometimes be a point of failure.. and get movement in it.

Would it be worth me getting the gearbox mount, and the dogbone/stabilizer mount changed when i get my clutch done? - i guess it would be easily done with the gearbox out.. and i know when i had the dogbone done at 40k it did make a difference.

Probably wouldn't hurt Colin.

I opened the bonnet and gave the engine a wiggle but couldn't hear anything. It moved more than I thought it would but not excessively so. No clunks or knocks when wiggling it back and forth. Tried to look at the other engine mount but it's under the air box so couldn't see much.

Noticed an interesting thing this morning.......the noise was much less pronounced. The only difference with today is that it was much cooler than the last week or so when the noise has been at its worst. Does the engine mount soften with heat? Might explain why it's worse once the engine's warmed up.
