Seatbelt warning tone - want to disable it

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is it possible to disable the seatbelt warning tone via VAG-COM (Octy Mk1 VRS 2003) ?? It really does my nut in :silly:. I don't need that to remind me to put my seatbelt on. It sort of comes natural these days!!

I have had a quick browse of this site, plus a quick poke around ross-tech's site to no avail.

Cheers

Yep

Log into instruments, 17 IIRC, and select coding. You'll get a ballon guide appear if you are using a current version of VAG-COM.

The format will be AAXXX, basically you need to subtract 2 from the number in the position AA. The value of AA will depend on the options you have.

I just disconnected the black plug underneath the drivers seat. No more annoying warning tones just the warning light in the instrument cluster.

TBH, I would have done it the proper way. Disconnecting the wire may stop the bong sound, but what else is now no longer working. I wouldnt like to be in your drivers seat in an accident where the seatbelt pretensioners didnt work for example, or the airbag fails to deploy. Its just to much of a risk.

yup or just do what i did with the warning tone.

but your belt on first, simple enough

Isn't the switch in the seatbelt buckle either open or closed depending on whether the seatbelt is fastened or not? If you disconnect the plug under the seat and jumper the two connections the tone will sound. If left disconnected the warning tone system will think the seatbelt is fastened.

I'm no expert but surely the pretensioners and airbags would not be affected?

A very reasonalbe assumption, hadnt thought of it like that.

What about the older (409-1) version of VAG-COM? I tried what you said using the information given. I went to (17) then (07) RECODE and changed the first two digits but it made no difference. I quickly changed it back again :o I am assuming it's different between version

By the way, a colleague of mine says NEVER ASSUME - It'll make an "A$$" out of "U" and "ME" - But I did anyway

Cheers bud

The version of VAG-COM should make no difference here, but you can start telling us your original coding value. FWIW, I've had a case like that some time ago, some of the Octavia MK1 cluster seem not to care about the change.

OK. Will do. It may take me a few days to get round to it now though. Just finished a marathon Ikea unit assembly, and i'm done in :(
