Beware !!

Featured Replies

Just got my RS4 alloys so I was going to fit them and need the locking nut and jack etc from the boot. Problem can't get them out !!! - Sub Box in the way !!!!!! What a stupid person I am luckely all the install is mounted to a board which is fastened to the rear strut braces so I can gain access but I'd hate to do it at the side of the road with a puncture. Anyone got any ideas ??

Interesting points think I'm going with the foam ditching the spare and having more amps in the space. I'm not going for the "weight saving approach" I'm going for the "hear me coming from 12miles approach"

If you use foam you will find that you can't get the tyre you have used it on repaired. Also if you damage a wheel or tyre by kerbing or hitting a pothole, or if a tyre suffers a major puncture due to a cut or something more substantial, or the puncture is in the sidewall, you WILL regret not having a spare.

Is there a legal requirement to carry one if it was fitted as standard equipment? I know that if you do carry it, it has to be in good order but where do you stand if you just dont have it?

No, a spare is not a legal requirement. If you have one, it has to be legal though, so no putting the baldy one in the boot ;)

Poo I've got do some more work now !! I thinking of changing the location of the spare in the well. Ie foam spacer thingy at the front and pull the wheel to the back I think this should work ?

You could always try and get a skinny steel as long as it had the same rolling diameter as the alloys. Might make it a little easier to get in and out for the odd occasion when you need it.

Or just make sure your boot install is easy to remove :)

Mine is just about do-able at the roadside, although if I ever lose the screwdriver I carry around, I'd be up the creek...
