Oh joy....lots of error codes!!!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I had the traction control light come on the other night, and last night an engine symbol light come on, think its the check electrics one, anyway, went into the local dealer and they plugged it into VAG-COM, and ive got loads of errors :(

17705 - Pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve (had for ages)

17544 - Fuel trim - Bank 1 System too lean P1136

16486 - Mass Air flow sensor (G70) signal too low

01313 - Engine control module - check DTC memory

01274 - Air flow positioning motor faulty (air con so not fussed)

I recently changed my filter back to the std one as i got fed up of the CAI, so are the 3 middle ones related to this swap? before, the car would kinda jerk when i took my foot of the throttle, then when it was cleared this morning and it was ok, but since the traction control light has come on its jerky again. So guess it hasnt fixed it??

I remember reading something about errors popping up if you swap filters, guess i was luck adding it on, but hopefully its only the filter swap.

The garage is saying i need a new MAF, at over

Cheers for that. do you think it would be ok to drive 200miles with the warning lights on?? ive got an urgent journey to do tonight! typical....

not been about for the last few days, but i need to use the car again tomo, i plan on getting some contact cleaner to clean the MAF to see if that sorts the problem out, but once its been done, will the error codes clear by themselves? or do i need to get the dealer to clear them again?

The codes need to be cleared.

oh joy, thats another

IIRC, the codes will clear if the fault doesn't reoccur after 5 ignition/drive cycles? Or maybe I dreamt that!

i hope thats right, will give it a try tomo :)

If you are getting a new MAF I would get one from a Main Dealer rather than GSF.

If you are getting a new MAF I would get one from a Main Dealer rather than GSF.

Why the peirburg one I got was fine in my old A4?

Advice from somone who uses qute a lot of them and will now only buy genuine. I know the GSF ones are normally Bosch but for some reason the advice is stick to OEM. Also worth noting that Audi parts come with a longer warranty than those from VW, Skoda and SEAT.

Fair enough each to there own. My take on it is if the OEM ones keep failing .... trying another brand.

The GSF and OEM are the same price, well near enough, been told OEM is

If you are having to pay the dealer to reset codes would it not be worth getting the new MAF (If you are sure that's the problem) beforehand.

im gonna try and blag a free reset if i can, otherwise will work out what is cheapest/easiest to do.

I beleive you cannot clear the codes with the shareware version of VAG COM, its only to diagnose a problem, rather than clear it. However, currently researching which lead to purchase :)

The MAF sensor is connected to the airbox, big round plastic housing with a plug in the top, if you remove the airbox, you will notice air goes into the MAF, it has a crossed grate cover protecting the sensor, ive got pics but not on this laptop. If you have a small screwdriver (flat head) you can unscrew the 2 screws holding the sensor inplace and just pull it out instead of taking the housing out aswell :) much easier to clean aswell :)

OK, New MAF fitted, i was able to 'borrow' one from a mate that works in VW to test the car, so fitted this, got all the error's cleared. Tonight, warning light come back on. Not sure what the codes are yet, will find out tomo, but the previous list pointed to the MAF, which its not. What else could go wrong?

Same error codes again?? however, found the problem. Ive got a split air pipe that goes down in between the inlet manifold, kinda under it, so will take some things off over the weekend to get to it and tape it up. See if that fixes it !!!

I clear error codes all the time with the share ware version of VAG-Com, i regularly have to clear 'engine mapped temperature sensor' or as stated by some one else the codes clear eventually if the fault has gone (around twelve restarts).

  • Author

cool, will have to look at the share ware version as need to get VAG COM myself :)

my car is fixed (touch wood) after taping up the hole in the pipe, drives lovely at the moment, loads more power, surprised what you get used to!!

will take it in the garage next week to get it checked when i have my service/cambelt. but so far so go :)

  • 7 months later...

i had that exact problem on mine with the lean error. small hose split under intake manifold. replaced it and its fixed. 6000miles on and its still fine.

but i do have the 01274 flap error. you ever get that fixed?

ive also had the 17705 for ages! doesnt seem to affect the car or go away! you have any luck?

there does seem to be a list of 'common codes'!

  • Author

everything is fixed now, except 17705, which i just give up on, only seems to effect the car when its cold, after the first 30/40 seconds the rev's drop and its fine, so i just wait...... all the other errors were because of the split pipe, the tape didnt last long, so i bought a new one, only a few quid, just a paid to get to, it was under the inlet manifold.... god knows what its doing there, but once it was replace all the errors went..... so touch wood the engine is fine... now tires and suspension need sorting!!!
