Estate 12v boot socket.

Featured Replies

Just a quick question, is the 12v socket which is in the boot of an estate the same or similar to that shown in the photo below? I'm going to fit one to my Hatch and would like it to be as close to 'standard' as possible. (Yes I am sad. My girlfriend/family/friends tell me to get out more on a regular basis  )

Thanks :)

It doesn't look as good as that I'm afraid. Thats a very tidy job. The one on the estate is on the plastic pillar in the area of the lights (if you get me)

Just been out to the car and taken this pic on my phone by torch light. Hope it gives you an idea.

Thanks Simon! Really appreciate that. I think I could fit one in a very similar position in the Hatch.

Thanks again :)

Phil,

the one in my car got corroded so I had to replace it, it was cheaper to get a 'universal' one from maplin (

Agreed and given the option i would much prefer the one in your pic Phil than the standard one in the back of my estate its much better looking

The one in the first post is the same as the one we had in our W reg A6. Don't know if its in the latest models, but a very neat retrofit, if you can get one at a decent price.

So is the Octavia it seems. I decided I preferred this socket so went with it. I think it looks factory-fit which is the look I was going for :)

Where did you feed the 12v socket from? I want one in Octy vRS

I just piggy-backed the original socket in the central console.

I guess that makes sense, I just don't want a lot of wiring as that usually means destroying the seals :s

So you ran a wire from the centre socket to the back? Seems like a long way to run a wire from.

I've got the a now redundant disc-changer in the boot, anyone know if there's wires in there suitable to tap into for a simple 12v socket in the boot?

I'd guess the feed to the autochanger might be a bit low rated. It would be fine for low power stuff (phone charging etc) but an electric coolbox will really pull a heafty current. I may be wrong on the wire size, and if you only need a low current, then stick a 3A in-line fuse in, and it will probably be fine. I ran a feed to the back of my truck. I used 30amp cable, and have a 25amp inline fuse fitted. My coolbox blew the 10amp in the original wiring I piggybacked off of (which ran the truck top locking, so I had to break in again!)

I just took a live freed from the central console, under the carpet on the 'transmission tunnel' and then behind the carpet below the rear seat. Once I got to the side of the car, I removed some plastic trim and cable tied it to the existing loom. There are several earthing points in the boot, I just used the closest.
