Glow Plug Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The problems with our poor car continue. It's an 04 1.9TDi Elegance, and I've already posted on here about the persistent oil leak that was resulted - eventually - in a new engine being fitted. This then resulted in a bit of oil getting in the coolant which gave the red flashing coolant light, and was fixed with a new expanion tank and sensor last week.

We thought we'd turned the corner, but today whilst driving we now have the orange glow plug light flashing.

I've done searches on here and noted all the stuff about brake light switches and blown brake bulbs. In fact - I was actually hopeful this was it - but we've just checked the all the brake lights are working fine, and only when the pedal is pressed - which seems to me to discount those problems.

So - does anyone have any ideas what is causing this? I've no problem calling the dealer and taking the car in yet again, but it is so depressing to do it over and over. And also, I'm keen to know if whatever this fault is is likely to be a side-effect of the engine being changed (and thus whether it is likely to cost us or not).

Sadly, I am rapidly going off Skodas ... never thought I'd say that!

D. :(

Hi there....this will almost definately be the brake light switch, even if the lights are still working!! Four pin switch which controls more than the brake lights, linked to the vehicle ecu....cuts the fuel when you brake, hence the link to the glow plug system.

Sounds like the brake light switch is a distinct possibility.

I'd let a dealer fit it as there is a certain way of doing it and if you get it wrong you need to buy another switch :(

Okay - thanks for that.

Have noted this morning that, the cruise control does not appear to work now. From what I've read on other threads this pretty much confirms it as a dodgy brake light switch.

Does this sounds right?

Yeah, but the dealer will be able to confirm it.
