My pride and joy destroyed - a very bad day!

Featured Replies

In loving memory of my Furby vRS. :orb_sad:

Yesterday at 6pm i was going down the A5 (cruising at a steady 55mph) and a car coming the OTHER way swerved onto my side of the road and collided with me! The result - a mess! It all happened so quickly i have no idea what happened, the other driver, a 17 yo girl who had JUST passed said she had a blow-out, but there is no way to tell for sure as most of our wheels are all in lots of little tiny pieces!

Got to look on the bright side, im damn lucky to still be here, luckily she was in an L reg fiesta - had it been a 4x4 i would have been in trouble. Also she has accepted liabilty with no problems which is always a bonus.

However, my pride and joy i spent 2 hours waxing and cleaning the same day is now dead, might sound sad but i had become quite attached to her.

She might be able to fixed, but i know she will be a write off. The whole of one side and corner is gone so im fairly sure, what do you reckon??? Tried to put some pics up but couldnt upload them from my phone. Luckily my insurance company Bells are taking her away to be assessed tomorrow, so should be resolved soon.

Thank you for listening to my whining my Briskoda friends! :)

James

Yeh im am VERY lucky to still be here, if we were both doing 55mph in opposite directions that is like hitting something stationary at 110mph! My loyal Furby did well for me to walk away from the accident. :)

Sorry to hear this - but the main thing is that no-one was seriously hurt.

I also noticed your list of mods - is it worth removing things like the police car lights before she goes off to the insurance company. I can't see them being a problem, but no point giving your insurers any opportunity to duck their responsibilities.

The Fabia is very sturdy and it would have been a lot worse if you had been in a fiesta too!

Glad to here you walked way though which is the main thing

Glad to hear you are okay! Did you get the Police involved? If you did, then they should have tagged it to be looked at by the vehicle examiner. They can tell if a tyre has had a blow out or if there was any fault at all with the vehicle as to why it steered into your path. They are very clever how they do tests etc. I certainly would get the vehicle examiner in if I was attending an accident of that nature.

But at least you are okay and thats all that matters. Cars can be replaced but lives cannot!

Yeh everything has come out so they can go in my next Fabia vRS if this one gets wrote off.

There shouldnt be any problem with them ducking out of their responsibilities, Bells will pay to get my car fixed/or give me market price, then claim the money back from the liable persons insurance company (Churchill) when everything is sorted.

What is the average market valve for a car like mine, 04 plate with 30,000 miles? Can i expect 7-8 k, that is how much they are on Autotrader for?

Glad to hear youre OK. Hope they give you good payout., Good luck mate

All well and good her admitting liability at the time but her insurer may not see it that way. Its not un-common for them to ask people to retract their admission of liability in the hope of at least a 50:50 split.

Why would you not believe her? No one would purposefully swerve into an oncoming vehicle - did she look suicidal or anything?

sorry for your loss, hope it all get sorted for you

No but new drivers have been well known to drive beyond their abilities on twisty roads around where I used to live, resulting in lots of bent fences, bushes and other similar objects. I had a close one where I would have been killed as i had a bloke miss me by inches as he was racing somebody and overtook with me coming the other way in a BX which is made of plastic.

Oddly enough, when My car got written off I had just spent the day cleaning ti all inside and out and it almost brings a tear to your eye to see your pride and joy in such a mess. On the other side of it either of us could easily been dead and are not.

When you start to get down, just think of that

I am noticing a pattern

I am never cleaning my car again!

Yup.. thats my excuse

If it makes you feel any better, my first car (a VW Polo) was written off after someone went into the back of me. Like you, I'd cleaned it up; and it was gleaming (just before the accident).

When the inspector came round to take a look; he made a specific comment about how well I'd looked after it. I recon the fact it was clean made him value it a bit more.

Lets hope your efforts have the same effect.

ps: just got my new bumper back from the spray shop. It's an excellent job; but it's not the same as an origional. I think you are better off picking out a nice second hand motor; rather than your pride and joy being rebuilt to a less than perfect standard (which is likely to be the case).

Glad your ok mate!

Its reassuring to know that the furby can stand up well to heavy impacts!

 Sorry to hear about your loss, just reading about it, made me think how would react in your situationI I have always thought of a car as a tool to get from a to b, so not really felt sorry when I have sold them. BUT there is some thing about this car, that has me very reluctant to let it go.

I would start doing some serious researach around dealers , auto trader, etc, to get an average / good price guide on you potentially deceased car. Keep printed evidence as I am sure they will offer an insuting settlement initially, but you will need to push to get what is a fair price for a replacement.( IF they do write ir off ).

So am I, just cleaned mine yesterday, I'm going to get a bucket of s*** and throw over it.

Glad you're ok though, I nearly rolled mine on the dual carriageway so it does shake you up a bit.

I'm assuming here that you both walked away from the accident.

Seems like a bit of a miracle or even, a miracle of engineering both cars.

How to have a reliable car and long lived car:

Step 1 - Avoid silver these are less reliable

Step 2 - Never ever clean your car

HTH :D

You walked away.

Lived to tell the tale.

Defo excuse for me not to clean the car

If it makes you feel any better i spent most of yesterday washing and cleaning my car only to be hit by a FLYING BRICK on the M1 this morning leaving the door pillor bent and the windscreen smashed.

i also see a pattern

hope it all gets sorted for you buddy.

ps got fitted some weitecs on friday after your recomendation and i must say big thumbs up for them:thumbup:

The Furby seems to be a strong little car. I was looking at selling mine to free up some money for the house but the safety benefits won me over so it stays. I really didn't fancy the odds of walking away from an accident in a 15 year old Golf.

Hows the other party? I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a 110mph accident in an L-reg Festa ...

glad to hear you're alright.

I'm now scared to wash my new car ! - mind you, it is raining at the moment anyway.
