My pride and joy destroyed - a very bad day!

Recommended Posts

Hows the other party? I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a 110mph accident in an L-reg Festa ...

Exactly what i was thinking. A car of that age would not have crumple zones or air bags! It sounds like the driver was even luckier than you.

Don't worry to much about the car - in a few years time, when you're driving another VRS around (?!), it'll all be forgotten. Like others have said, that fact that you're ok is the main thing.

After my dad hit a Xara in our old 205 (an accident that nearly killed him), I have always had newer cars for the exact reason of saftey.

My sister is about to buy her first car, and my parents are giving her some money to ensure she is going to be in somthing modern and safe (as can be anyway).

Glad everyone is ok, Ill alway say a car is only metal and plactic at the end of the day, so is generally replaceable. You and your family ar not.

The MK III fiesta has crumple zones, they just might not be so good, but the things crumple.

As for the air bags, does a hard plastic cap over a recessed bolt and a collapsible steering column help

Sorry to hear bout that mate! Hope u get that sorted soon. They are good springs tho!

Thanks everybody for your kind responses, the comments about never cleaning your cars again has brought a big smile to my face! Someone mentioned that the girl was luckier than i was, there was definatley someone looking over her, her L reg fiesta was not looking good, and they must only have a safety rating of two at max, is the Fabia a four star rating???

Have been on the phone all day today, i must say full credit to Bells Insurance, they have been fantastic. My hire car is due to arrive tomorrow morning, and also my car is being picked up to go to the repair garage at 9 ready for the decision whether they are going to fix or send her to car heaven. :P That is not bad when i was only involved in the accident less than 24 hours ago!

I also have been referred to a solicitors (free of charge) about my back. Since the accident even tho my neck is fine i have been having lower back pain. Im not sure whether to make a claim, im not one to make a fuss out of nothing, but i am in pain and will not be able to work on the building site for a while. Im sure Churchills wont miss a few pennies to cover a few days off work for me?

One last thing, Bells have offered to sort my car out and then bill the other insurance company, however Churchills have also said they will do it. I chose Bells coz i believe they wont want to screw me other like the other persons company will do, i made the right decision right? This is the first accident i have ever been involved in so i dont really know what is best to do!

Cheers guys, James

All well and good her admitting liability at the time but her insurer may not see it that way. Its not un-common for them to ask people to retract their admission of liability in the hope of at least a 50:50 split.

:iagree:

you will have the letter through in a few days telling you it's your fault.... they might even ask you for a written account of what happened... just ignore the letter completely:O

cheers mate its going in for a new one on wednesday so all sorted:thumbup:

Get your claim in dont mess about, if it had been your fault do you think the 3rd party would think twice about claiming? i think not.

Also get yourself to see a specalist about your back too, they will do a medical report so its all on record.

Yer the springs are really good, ride quality is better than the eibachs i had on the polo and i was supprised when they came as they are stamped at -25mm not the 20mm it said in the book. the car sits lovley on them, best

Hi Dude, sorry to hear about the smash - glad you were both OK. I had a small shunt last year (women hit the back of my car in motorway traffic) not too hard but i had serious issues with my back and neck. Took 8 months of work to get me right, make sure u see a doc, and push for a specialist, even if you think you are Ok these things can come up later in life......

Glad you're okay and on the way to getting sorted.

Don't want to be a doom merchant but don't be surprised if they drop off your hire car one day and then pick it up the same day or the next because they have decided to write your car off and make you an offer!

Heard this happen to quite a few people!

As regards earlier post about police attendance, round here if no-one is injured, and no allegation of drunk/drugs driving made during initial 999 call, and the road is not blocked then we wouldn't normally attend, who said cost cutting gone mad!

Anyway hope you get a new motor soon.

Regards,

Steve

Best of luck getting sorted, just be thankful nobody was seriously hurt.

Thinking about it though, perhaps we should havbe a sticky on who has killed theirs to go with the SE register, the way it's going the Vrs will be a rare beast in a couple of years time..

I am booked in to see a doctor and chiropractor tomorrow, so i'll get an assessment done. Also I will know Furby's fate by the end of tomorrow, she is also being assessed.

Churchills have rang me up and confirmed that there client is admitting liability and that there will be no dispute so that is all set in stone (i recorded the call) hehe.

As 'Borderspeed' said, the police turned up to see everyone was alive, then they just left! Crazy!

And maybe a sticky as 'fabmark' suggested would be a good idea, i imagine if my car gets written of it will be bodged up and sold, it would be helpful to have a list of as the cars that have 'passed away'.

Anyway thank you everyone for your help and kindness, hopefully it wont be too long before i am back with a mended or new Furby vRS, and i hope none of you are ever in the same situation.

Regards, James
