how much lost money

Featured Replies

I all just thinking is it more wize to get a new vrs for 18k or get a older one for like 9k then run that for 2 years then get a newer later in time as I see a lot of vrs selling for around 13/14k in 6/18 months thats a lot of loss in that time as well as or get a golf V that shape and dont lose that much money :(

If you don't want to lose money don't buy cars, they're a crap investment.

You'll always lose more if you buy a new car and change it after a year to 18 months as that's when depreciation is at its steepest. Keep it for 3 years though and you should expect with the VRs to get nearly half your money back (according to the depreciation percentage quoted by Autoexpress).

Also, get the absolute best deal you can when you buy it and then obviously you lose less in depreciation.

I know that but Golf GTI 's seems to be holding there money very well.

They will do because they are highly desireable but you will pay more for it in the first place.

Consider this, you pay 20K for a GTi and it retains 50% (for example) of its value after 3 years leaving you 10K but costing you 10K in depreciation.

However, you would only pay 17K for a VRs, and assuming depreciation to be greater where it retains only 41% (pessimistic example) of its value after 3 years it would leave you almost 7K, but more relevantly only costing you the same in depreciation as the GTi, i.e. 10K.
