BT Broadband Browser hell...

Featured Replies

Recently moved over to BT Broadband and whilst doing the install my machine was taken over by the BT branded browser software. I've managed to get most off/turned down etc but I still have one problem.

I can open up good old fashoned Internet Explorer, but if I click on a link that opens up a new broswer window, or click a link in email, the annoying BT branded browser comes up.

How can I tell my PC to use MS Internet Explorer only? I could delete the BT Browser but it is handy to have a dip into now and again. I just want the option, not the forcing of it on me!

Cheers.

When you open IE it should say its not your default browser and ask if you want it to be, just say yes?? Does it not do this?

If it doesn't do this, when in IE go to Tools then Internet Options. Click on the Programs tab and at the bottom of the page, put a tick in the box that says Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser, or something along those lines. If you are using IE 7, there will be a button there to make it your default too.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the replies. IE opens without any messages and I checked the programs tab and the box is ticked against default browser.

I tell you, this BT stuff is serious. I think its a bit much you don't get the option not to install their branded stuff from the install CD. Thats life I suppose.

YOU just wanner hope you dont need to ring the helpline

indeed to goodness !!!!!!!!!!!!

Same here, i've installed lots of the BT 2wire routers, never had to install anything from the CD that comes with your welcome pack.

Plug the router in, navigate to the ip or address of it, change the user/pass and away you go!

Never looked at a HomeHub yet so couldn't comment on those.

Firefox:thumbup:

i had the same problem here too.. you cant seem to get rid of bt's browser

Agree its Firefox for me too :)

i've dusted off my old archimedes mahine (riscpc600) and i'm using websterXL and it's great.....

Alwaysthe same with BT CD's - like AOL -once on - only Format gets rid of them ,and helpline -as said "oh my goodness" .

Got a 205 router , 2091 router and a Home Hub --as said by the 205 experts - "NO USB HERE " -IN other words -forget the usb ports and the CD - plug in the ethernet cable, and the PC finds the router ( sometimes with 205, it needs a bit of help) . 2091 and Home Hub NO PROBS - If you need to find the ip address of your router little program out there called angry ip -but you need to know the ip range. Most voyager's can be found by inputting http://www.voyager.home/ on a browser - and from memory http://192.168.1.254 for the home hub.

DON'T FORGET - when you get into a BT router - default username and password is "admin" - change password -

And for those of you that want more info on 205 , and i think a way into the 2091 has been found - the bloke hosting this site has a lot of info -

corzoogle - the fast, real-time search engine

I
Don't know why but I'm not getting the BT browser as much as I was...maybe WinXP learns that I keep shutting the thing down. Now I only have the problem when opening links from email as this still insists on BT Browser.

This is exactly the situation that I have.

Is this BT browser a different web browser completely to IE ? I've never used an install cd from a broadband supplier ever (well, once, and that was enough! ;)).

They used to be normal versions of IE, but have BT branding applied to them.

They use a BT/Yahoo branded IE and also give you Norton Spyware scanner which originally was branded BT/Norton Antispyware. It

Is there a setting in your email programs to tell the email program which browser to launch when clicking on a link in a e-mail?

I use either webmail or eudora so I dont know outlook express at all.

I had the same issues when installing the BT Home hub but my BT browser is now banished.
