Temp sensor where abouts and removal

Featured Replies

Hi I have an intermittent temperature gauge which I guess is either a connection or sensor fault.

Can you tell where it is and how it comes apart; do you loose oil when removing?

Thanks

Shappy

Which engine do you have?

on a 1.8T its on the right hand side of the block in a coolant pipe, no idea about other engines.

It is a 19 tdi on a 02 plate.

sorry never thought to state which it was.

I have a 1.9 SDi - the sensor for this is on the right hand side of the engine from the front of the car - it is located in the coolant pipe there.

I would assume it is the same on yours, as the turbo should be the only difference.

I would suggest you do this when the car is cold as it it is too hot you could scold yourself as the coolant will spurt ut when you remove sender.

Held in with a c clip that simply puls out, slot the new sender in and replace clip.

You will not lose any oil as it is on the water circuit, from radiator.

You will lose coolant and will need to top up.

if it helps, i had an intermittent ( reading low, then flying up to normal, then back down to very low etc.) temp gauge on my TDi, and after doing a search on here and having a bit of a read it seems that the electrical connector to the sensor can corrode giving dodgy readings, so i gave the plug a damned good wiggling, and its cured my problem, so the gauge now reads correctly.
