B Pillar Trim... Bugger!

Featured Replies

So I'm getting the bug and wanting to mod the car a little so decide to start with something cheap like the pillar trim (working out the money to also get in on the current Koni & Eibach GB). So while applying them I've only gone and bent the horizontal rubber window trim that has a metal wire through it. It isn't much but it is enough to be annoying because I know it isn't as flush to the body as I know it was.

So my question is, anyone else done this and got any tips for bending it back? I'm thinking putting a curve in it so it is has a small hump that bridges rather than curling away from the body and the force of the curve against the body straightens it out? Not sure I'm describing this well. Need some kind if rod to bend against as a tool.

While I'm at it, any one applied this item a little out of alignment and pealed the plastic of and reapplied straight? I'm fearing that the plastic will either stretch and warp as I pull it else loose its sticky. Again, nothing major and you'll not really notice unless you was looking for it... unlike the bottoms that are not a prefect straight line with the existing rubber window frame trim.

And yes, I to have a tenancy to being neurotic at times about things not being prefect. Anyway, a lil feed back and experience appreciated. Hopefully I can figure out how to attach photos as examples of my problems and the finished look for those interested. You can find the part numbers and more examples for the estate at Pimp My Skoda! where I got the idea from.

Glad my website is proving useful :)

When I first applied one of mine I pulled it back and reapplied it but that was before it bonded properly.

If I were you I'd leave it as-is - trying to remove it now will most likely ruin the vinyl by pulling it out of shape.

No-one else will ever notice.

I did the same thing fitting the trims to mine. Eventually I replaced all the rubber bits with new ones because they wouldn't straighten out. About

Aye, has had a good while now to stick. Don't know about the pack for the estate but the hatch version has two strips left over for the Felicia. Did concider (momenterily) to cut a peice to fill the gap. And as I read the packet to get the correct spelling for Felicia I only now notice the instuctions on the reverse of the packet. Now I've had a few beers last night, slept on it and woke with a small hangover I figure it isn't the end of the world. See how I feel in a few months and buy a fresh pack and give the left overs away to anyone that wants them.

So new rubber bits... Looks like it is all one peice though there appears to be a bump two thirds along that hides a join. Is it tricky getting the replacment in with out putting in any kinks?

I used a wooden ruler to get the old ones off, and a straight piece of timber to keep the new ones flat whilst pushing them into place.
