More Rumbles

There's a few posts about rumbles here and there.

Anyone had anything similar one to this.

When coasting in gear at lower speeds 20-30 mph my 2002 1.4 16v Fabia estate experiences a sort of low pitch brrrrrrr. It seems to go away when pressure is applied to the accelerator, then when I lay off the gas it comes back

This is the first car I've owned with traction control and diff lock, just wondered if it was associated with these devices.

The car has had new tyres recently and was fitted with a new sub-frame which was damaged by the previous owner (the damage was very minor but it was fouling the wishbone mounting so failed its MOT).

It's still under its 12 months used warranty so if it is a problem it should be fixed.

turn up the radio and all shall disapear ;)

It's possble that it could be something on the engine, gearbox or exhaust coming into contact with the chassis as the engine moves slightly forward on it's mounts when you take your foot off the gas ? This could easily make the sort of noise you describe. :)

Hi,

Not sure if it's the same noise, but I've always had a sort of quite noisy chatter if on a slight over-run or neutral throttle at about 30 in top (say just coasting around a corner before changing down). It was worse when new - really upsetting in a new car. Dealers refused to do anything, "Skoda won't touch gearboxes until at least 20,000 miles". Now it's done 74K and I won't touch the dealers ever again.

Tdi 1.4.

If it's the same, I suggest don't worry, pulling things apart might solve that only to cause other problems later on.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Could wll be the exhaust flexi under the sump.

Vibration grumbling noise at times noticeable when slowing down with brakes applied stops when brakes released, can be prevoked by holding gear lever hard towards driver side in neutral.

My estate had the same sounding fault so I got it investigated when it went in for service last week and Streets Skoda in Bristol sorted it.

The fault was the gear change cables touching the exhaust heat shield. After realigning the exhaust and cables the noise was gone.

Fabia 1.9 TDI 2006 Estate

Well worth getting investigated.

 Many thanks, especially to Lummox. After 3 years the noise has gone. I was always afraid to touch anything because of the guarantee and took the garages word for it that it was the geabox innards. Went through everything, tightening, straightening and greasing all top linkage. Changed gearbox oil (Comma 75/90
