Front dampers - 50,000 miles covered by warranty ?

Featured Replies

Has anyone been able to get their dampers replaced at this kind of mileage, brakes and pads I can live with but the dampers seemed dodgy months ago. Finally got an answer from customer service, who are actually a sub contractor based in surrey who I used to work for, and regardless of what they say do not work for skoda, or seat etc... even though they get trained to swear on the eyes of their babies that they are....... the girl their kept saying ' you need to have a full diagnostic to determine if the failure is due to wear and tear or a manufacturing fault'. Also it was stated I would have to pay the dealer, or any independent body to carry out such tests. The fact that the dealer had my car for a whole day and said, they ' DO ' need replacing and they will be covered by warranty seemed to make it a pretty cut and shut case in my opinion, though not in the eyes of the customer service puppet who had just the one programmed repsonse.....

Got that out of my system but my argument mainly is that I rely on the dealer to look after my interest. Some 25-30,000 miles ago I queried the suspension as it seemed very vague and the handling was poor. Months later when the mileage is preety high they agree it needs sorting but now falls outside the warranty.

Conclusion : either my dealer are useless @#$* or skoda attempt to delay and delay to avoid the issue.

I had an issue with poor idle from new, and it was over a year before the area technician visited to asses, and as the car had done 40,000 miles he said it was acceptible. Maybe at 40K...but from new?

What is wrong with them? If they arent leaking or knocking or have a physical defect then chances are slim, would they fail an MOT?

Hi

Shockers tend to be covered in warranty up to 40k miles

Then they are classed as fair wear and tear

Sorry

I reckon I first queried at under 40K to be honest, but was dismissed by the dealer. The ride bacially is now jumpy over bumps, almost to the extent that your teeth chatter, also it lifts like a boat when you pull away and sways about like a drunkard on fast roads. Also get the odd clonk noise from the front when pulling away whilst turning, this might also happen at speed (but I can't hear it over the ridiculous road noise), though the mechanic at the dealers said sometimes the springs do move about and cause this.

Also at speed on a nice smooth motorway, if I happen to hit a piece of gravel or some equally small debris the car changes its course, almost hopping like a watership down bunny(before the gassing).

Anyhow, the call centre acting on behalf of skoda ( or the skoda call centre as they put it) have today stated that they are not covered.

I know a bloke who knows a bloke, and will look at possibly trying a small claim, could be a laugh

Looked at the cost of new ones, about 60+vat for the fronts each and 25 each for the rears, Looks an easy enough job but if I can wangle a freebie......then all well and good. The dealer want almost the cost of a replacement car to carry out the work.....rip off buggers...

If I were to purchase a tv, with a years guarantee :

use it twice and on the last day it broke...it would be repaired

leave it on 24hrs a day for the whole year and it broke the last day...it would be repaired.....

Buy a car with a 60,000 3 yr warranty......or unlimited in the first 2 years......it's not covererd. The warranty term / failure due to a manufacturing defect is a far too easy get out, and when applied to claims that have been delayed and delayed and delayed is frankly a con.

And to think the customer service centre were pretty much begging me not to leave, it was years ago but beg they did......shoulda stayed and tried to insert some integrity into the puppet staff....with no powers......with only their book of standard responses to keep them company. Poor misguided pawns of the vw regime.....
