something about in the nile?!? lol.... (of course, said with an accent ;) )

I was in my OCTAVIA benjamin ;) And grip was poor.......etc......:P

don't tell me it also started to misfire, the tyres were the wrong compound and you had the wrong pants on that day :P

i also seem to remember you saying that your octavia was quicker A to B than the fabia but not as much fun.

Hey kit, I recently driven a A3 1.9 Tdi (130 bhp) and i thought it very much the same as you did i.e. silly short 1st and 2nd gear, 3rd ok.. 4th ok..(wasnt a feel i'd expect) 5 and 6th wasnt a place to put your foot down and say 'bye bye'.. Think my problem is that i've never been in a diesel which has 130bhp (thus perhaps its my driving style thinking it'll react similar to a petrol). Have you driven something similar before?

I've driven similar(ish) ones, 160 bhp pug and golf tdi (100bhp). pug was a pocket rocket go cart (scary! any gear you put your foot down and its woosh....), golf was alright, but seemed v similar to the A3 i was driving (seems to have not a huge amount of oomph). I have yet to drive a vRS but I presume its very similar to the A3 ya's? (does anyone know if dealers will allow drivers under 21 test drive the cars? if so i'll go down in a min and try it :D)

Apologies if it seems slight off-topic.

Hold on the 160TDI pug a pocket rocket.... the PAG engines are rubbish they have much less torque than the equivalent VAG of the same period.

All please note 130bhp isnt a lot of power fact - however if your coming up from say 100bhp its going to feel faster clearly if however your going down from say 180+ its going to be notably slower in most situations with only gearing having a posative impact on the lower powered car.

Not sure about the last post a 21y.o. questioning IF they would give him a test drive....well of course they would its in their interests to do so. Clearly if you turn up in a sub

Hold on the 160TDI pug a pocket rocket....

I'd concur that 160bhp of derv power in a pug 206 would be quick, as it's made out of a biscuit tin. Considerably lighter than any of VAG's offerings, thus a better power to wieght ratio, which is what makes progress quicker.

Bengie - yes all those excuses, and I didn't have the right shoes on......

There is always next time to take on the BurgerBuster :)

Sorry I meant the 106 Gti :P its a chipped petrol and yes it v fast for what it was (yes it also was a biscuit tin!! :D). Topped out at 145 peanuts (without much effort) and would easily pull very nicely from 60-70 peanuts (although everytime you put your foot down theres like a little voice in your head saying "

106Gti\Saxo VTS is a quicker car than a standard vRS Fabia but requires considerably more effort to coax the performance out. The in gear times would be slower however, due to significantly less torque.

Edit: A filter and exhaust should free up 8-10bhp, I'd be amazed if there was a +5bhp map available!!! Granted not a lot but more than that :D

The Saxo VTR I drove was lovely and torquey and pulled very nice and briskly even with 3 people in. No need to drop down gears for overtaking and very composed through the corners.

Just a shame about the stupid driving position!

ok!! back on subject:)......how loud is the turbo on a the fab vrs?...can you hear it clearly?.....in mine you hear nought!!

k:)

Mr Chris Porkie Pies - why did you state you had owned an Alpina B5?

I must admit it did read quite odd given you have a Mondy now - a very significant downgrade.

Gearing.

Ok lets put it like this if you have a very close ratio gear box - say which would max out on the rev limiter at 70mph and it only had 100bhp in gear times of that car vs a 200bhp car would be MUCH quicker.

Where did I say I (had) owned an Alpina B5?!

Your too modest for your own good Chris. Yes Welshy, he did own a B5.

To be perfectly honest, your problem is only going to be fixed by the Dealer. Not what is said here..... You've described a dissapointment feel coming from an Octavia vRS remapped.. to a Standard TDI. That could be the reason, but as said, the only way your going to find out ,is by taking it back to the dealers....

OR....

Finding an empty runway.. with another Fabia vRS :D

anybody got answer to turbo noise question?

k:)

Well if he did its a big step down the car ladder to a Mondy.

Still the B5 is a very good car indeed - what the std HP & torque?

Also whats the views on the new Alpina D3? Worth considering really 330d speed for 320d Msports costs + free night out on the town.

Main reason he sold it, was because the MPG wasn't great, sluggish performance, and too small.

Which is where a Mondeo TDI comes in handy..

The turbo does make a slight psssssss as it spools up but it's soon drowned out by the diesel roar. It's nowhere near as audiable as the 1.8T.

Check out this thread and all will be revealed ;)

Agreed, without a panel filter/PD160 intake I couldn't really hear the turbo. If it's not holding boost, it may well be a split in one of the hoses?

Chris

If one of the hoses were split. You'd hear the turbo whistling more, rather than being quiet.
