vRS Plain unlucky????

Featured Replies

I have owned my vRS since October 2005. I have loved it to bits but im getting pretty sure it was a dreaded 'friday afternoon' car.

Since that time it has been in the garage on three ocassions and has had the alternator replaced, the turbocharger replaced (it blew) and now it turns out im going to have to have the entire wiring loom changed after the 'glow-plug warning light started flashing on Sunday.

What's going on? I though Skodas were supposed to be reliable now, my experience has been pretty poor, even though I have enjoyed the car itself. Im 27 and its not exactly a great advert for quick Skoda's. I had to work hard to convince peers it was a top product worth buying and now it seems my work is being undone by the fact it spends more and more time in the garage:mad:

Do you think this warranty work will affect its value when I come to sell it?

Opinions please.

Warranty work shouldn't affect it's resale value as no-one will know any different unless they do some digging. It may make it a more attractive buy if it's had a new turbo too?

Don't get me started on the reliability ;)

LOL. Well, the guy that delivered the hoover I got off eBay turned up in an 03 Mondeo TDCi 130......the reason he was 2 days late delivering it was that he'd only just got it back after having 4 new injectors fitted and 2 x new springs.

Ha ha ha! True.....his credit card had just taken a severe beating but he did arrive, just a little bit peeved.

There's no such thing as a reliable car anymore I'm afraid. Unless you buy a Jap car that is......

You might well be right there!

Thank god for the warranty eh!

Very true, Chris! I'm glad they've finally decided to start making decent diesels too now :D

0k - Creaky doors - Still an issue

4k - Creaking clutch pedal - Warranty 2 hrs

16k - Front offside wheel bearing went - Warranty 2days

22k - Paint peeled from bumper seam - Warranty 2 days

25k - Flywheel went, took the clutch with it - Warranty 1 week

35k - Rear brakeline cracked - Did this myself because the dealer would take too long

37k - Rear window delaminating - Waiting for it to get bad enough to get it replaced under warranty

39k - Turbo went - Warranty - 4 days

40k - Headlamp washers - Fitter didn't attach pipe after above repair, not the cars fault but still part of my experiance - 1 hr

45k - CV joint on it's way will wait for the service to get it sorted

46k - Passenger door handle loose - Not fixed yet

46k - Passenger door window switch faulty Not fixed yet

You haven

My Fabia hasn't been exactly reliable since I got it. It's had lots of niggly little things go wrong, but to be honest most of them I expected to happen. The leaky doors, freaky heaters, knocking front suspension etc....I knew it would all happen and so I was prepared for it. I'd be a bit more hacked off if my turbo or intercooler went. That's mega

You have the "friday afternoon car" then I must have the "monday morning car". The latest in a long line of faults is Decon's 37k problem, my car is booked in for a new back window due to delaminating. It would be interesting to see a list of All manufacturing faults that other owners have had with the vRS.

I am sure the beancounters at Skoda HQ got around the table to see how cheap they could build the Fab and at the same time destroy a fantastic little car per the vRS with the cheap plastics etc etc etc.. To quote a motoring mag who owned a vRS for a short time was "We are sorry to see it traded but the little fab vRS was getting tired". I dearly wish my little Fab vRS was better built but sometimes you learn the hard way..Roll on the forthcomming Ford Focus RS mk2 ..get those trials finished Ford and start selling the cars..

Hmmm......when you say delaminating do you mean coming unglued? Mine looks like it's started doing that on the rear window at the bottom corners. Yet another trip to a dealer. Sigh.

No, that white line is actually the glass separating and it's apparently a common VAG issue.

My issue is it means that the window which is structural is not as strong as it should. That and the fact i dont like the white line....

Hmm...ok. I looked at a Fabia in the showroom whilst I was waiting to collect mine one time and it dod not have those white lines. If it's a common VAG issue then it must be covered under warranty?

i would like to love my fabia but just when it seems i have all the problem and niggly faults sorted something else crops up its good at the minute but im preparing myself for the next problem! i bought my fabia because the the good reputation skoda has but so far not really impressed i might go for a nissan next.

My 04 fab vRS is getting a new back window replaced under warranty back screen is already at the dealership . RAC windscreens are fitting it.

Righto, might get mine booked in then. If RAC screens are doing it I take it you don't need to leave it with the dealers?

The dealership is getting the RAC to fit it at the dealership. The replacement screen is from Skoda not RAC. Some time ago I read on this forum that owners of Fab vRS back screens were shattering for no reason could it have been that they had the VAG defect that Decron mentioned in this tread, anyhow im not waiting to find out I want my rear screen glued in right with no white/grey lines around the black areas of the screen.

Oky doky. Next time I'm passing I'll get them to take a look. Thanks mate. :D
