iPod / iTunes problem - Do not disconnect

Featured Replies

All has been well and good with my 30gb iPod video until yesterday. When updating with iTunes it came up with the familiar "Do not disconnect" on the iPod but when I clicked to eject it in iTunes it said it couldnt because "the device contains files that are being used by another application"

I assumed it would be my anti-virus software so I disabled that - but it made no difference.

I restarted, ran a spyware removal program and found nothing.

Disable the anti-virus and tried again.

Still the same problem

Any ideas?

There is nothing on there but music and album artwork.

Were you playing any music or video directly from the iPod rather than iTunes?

Was the error generated by iTunes or your operating system (Windows)?

It's best to ensure that your iPod and iTunes have completely synchronised before you ask to remove it. You might also want to try to close down iTunes and then use the 'remove hardware' function before removing your iPod. See if this generates the same error.

The error was generated by itunes and nothing was playing at the time. It also said the the ipod was fully synchronised.

I get it sometimes when i eject the ipod from my computer in windows. Never did any harm.

i dont even bother ejecting it now, just pull it out the dock, unless its syncing at the time.

I think its something to do with the ituneshelper.exe file that starts in services.

I've seen this too.

Closing itunes gets rid of the "do not disconnect" on the ipod. At that point I've assumed safe to unplug. No idea why it happens though.

I personally dont press eject, just yank it out. No problems :)
