How do I find part numbers?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of replacing my evap temp sensor (following Lummox's useful visual guide) because my aircon's been patchy for the last year and regassing hasn't sorted it out. Can anybody tell me the part number?

I'm thinking of replacing one or two bits of trim too (the glovebox is scratched to hell). Is there somewhere I can go to identify the part numbers?

Is it usually cheaper to order parts from a dealer or an independent place? A colleague has recommended somewhere local and also suggested places like Wilco autosave and the like.

Any advice?

Yep, that should get you the part numbers but personally, I wouldn't go changing the evap. temp. sensor until you are absolutely sure it's faulty as it's not a particularly nice job to do for the first time.

I'd check to see if any fault codes have been logged first showing this sensor to be faulty before potentially wasting any time & effort changing it,

Granted though, it is a common fault with the aircon system.

This visual guide? Yes, it is a bit tricky - but not mega-hard IMHO! Oh, and the part number's listed there too!

If it's been regassed already, it's pretty likely that the sensors the cause, I think. Mind you your description of 'patchy' doesn't quite match up with how I'd have described it - the way to tell for certain is described at the beginning of the thread, if you're unsure!

As for doing it / not doing it, the way I see it the part's only 20 quid, and since what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, I see it as a character-building learning experience! ;):D

Many thanks for the quick response guys; appreciated. D'oh for not spotting the part number there, but I appreciate the link for finding others in the future.

Re: the symptoms. Basically, over the last year or so the aircon has only worked intermittently and I've found no rhyme or reason as to when it will and won't work. The button lights up but, more often than not, there is no change in the temperature of the air coming out of the vents. Since it was regassed on Monday it now seems to work more often than not but still isn't 100% reliable. Yesterday it was working all the way on my outbound journey, but wouldn't switch on for the return journey two hours later. This morning it worked fine again. The recirc stays switched on, which somebody suggested means the flap motors aren't knackered, and I'd have thought it wouldn't work at all if the compressor had died. I'll experiment over the next couple of days to see whether it only works if switched on shortly after the car is started from cold.

But, as suggested above,
