Wheel Spinning

Featured Replies

I am finding the wheels have been spinning a bit when I take of briskly lately, but havnt been putting down too many revs, is this because of how mych torque the car has got or is it because my tyres are shagged?

What are a decent set of tyres you guys would recommend?

Thanks

JON

If the originals are conti's they tend to loose all their grip at at 3mm (the german limit!) I would reccomend goodyear F1 or excellence, Toyo's, pirelli p'nero'zero...

it could be because the tyres are a bit worn.

also as the engine gets 'run in' it will gradually loosen up and produce a liuttle more torque

What car have you got?

A vRS will have ASR so there should be virtually no wheelspin and also if it's been dry and rains the roads can be greasy.

I hate to say it, but it also has a lot to do with the driver. Wheel spin will only happen if too much uncontrolled power is put through the wheels.

Sorry, that's not quite 100% true. I've posted this question a few times.....the vRS lets the wheels spin a fair bit before cutting in the ASR. It seems to let you correct it yourself before intervening.

In my car you have to practically light up the front wheels before the ASR steps in and goes "WHOOOAH MULE!"

The favourites on here for tyres seem to be Toyo T1R's, Goodyear Eagle F1's and Pirelli PZero Nero. My choice out of those would be the Toyo's.

was going to say this myself, doesn't sound great either, I guess ,due to the weight of the car at the front when traction is lost and the wheels spin it sounds like the engine is dropping off it's mounts, bang, bang, bang, bang!:D

They must have different tollerences set into them then as mine won't let you light up the tires, nowhere near and believe me, I've tried it even in the wet.

It's fun with the ASR off though, that really makes me smile.

mine the same asr can take a while to kick in

Also wet greasy conditions - particularly if the roads have been dry for some time previous to the rain.

And, if you're driving slightly uphill and boot it you will experience less grip due to weight transfer.

I booted mine in 2nd on the flat the other day - normally no problem, but it had been raining before and the stretch of road is very very heavily used (queued virtually constantly). The traction light was on and off like a yoyo (not seen it for weeks).
