A few questions...

Featured Replies

I'm about to pick up my new Octavia Sport with DSG and I have a few queries that the search hasn't solved:

I only do about 7000 miles a year so I have assumed that variable servicing is the best option for me. The dealer agrees but I wanted to make sure. Does that mean that when my car arrives it should have a different oil and oil filter put in?

Do the wing mirrors have a control to pull them into the side of the car when parked and do they have a differently saved position which they move to for parking when reverse is selected? I think I might have dreamed these 2!

I am interested in getting a re-map though probably only when my warranty expires. I know that the DSG box is torque limited but does anyone know what the limit is? I only wanted a little boost.

I have read a lot of threads about running-in and I think I lean more towards the not thrashing the n**ts off it for 500-1000 miles school of thought. I won't be bumbling about like a pensioner either though. Presumably with the DSG box I just shouldn't floor it. Maybe just use three-quarters throttle? Should I also not use Sport mode for a while?

Is there still a camber issue with the sports supension? (My car is a factory build so brand new.)

Is there still an issue with water dripping into the boot with the hatchback lifted? Or water getting into the footwells?

Is it still possible to get hold of the white/clear Briskoda window stickers? I'm not too keen on the new version.

Does de-badging really work without pulling paint off? I would leave the Skoda badges. I've seen some contradictory threads.

Finally does anyone actually own a Sport? Everybody seems to have the VRS or something different.

Thanks in advance. Paul.

P.S. I still might not have the car for a week but I have read everything about it on here and elsewhere and I have no fingernails left. It's seemed a looooong wait. I just had to post something!

I've had my 2007 2.0TDi DSG L&K for just over a week now. With DSG in D mode you won't go above 4500 rpm anyway, and a quick blast in S mode may do it good - thats my school of thought and the more you search the internet the more the balance seems to go in favour of giving a diesel engine a bit of a blast in the early days.

The mirrors do not fold in, but the passanger side will dip when reverse is selected and the mirror switch is turned to L. I don't know what else this does or really how it works e.g. can I leave it in L and it will go back to normal when I am out of reverse. I just need to read the manual again! I did read I could tie the mirror position into the electric seat position memory button but I have yet to try that too!

How do you do the 7000 miles a year? Lots of 5 mile journeys may shorten the variable service routine I think. I thought variable service were for people who did lots of miles e.g.motorway where you can run out to 18000 miles between service?

The boot hatch when wet does throw some water in the boot, but it is not as bad as my Avensis which dumped the lot in the boot!

If you do a "low" mileage you should in theory choose "EXTENDED SERVICING" - this means irrespective of your mileage the car is serviced once a year (ie the ageing of the oil/seasons is the major wear factor) and of course the car and engine are given a once over at least every 12 months.

If you do many miles, the "VARIABLE SERVICING" should be chosen as it allows higher mileage between services , although more often usually than every 12 months.

(depends on your driving style - ie the VarServ "likes" motorway cruising as this is low load)

You can choose Variable Serving for a low mileage car, as the computer should still monitor the oil quality etc and call you in after (up to) 18 months - however, normally the dealer prefers to see you more regularly (= more

VRS195, I see you are in Hertfordshire. I'm in Whetstone near Barnet. Do you know Palmers in Watford? It's a bit late but are they any good. From both the replies so far I may have got it wrong. Maybe I should have yearly servicing. It's not too late as it hasn't actually got to the dealer yet. The car will mainly get used for school runs, shopping and the odd long distance to visit relatives and holidays. I like to hack about a bit but the wife (who thinks it's her car) mainly bumbles. As it's (hopefully) much more of a drivers car than our old C-Max it might well get a few more runs into the countryside for a bit of a play.

Do the wing mirrors have a control to pull them into the side of the car when parked
You can manually fold them in, but there is no automatic facility - there may be on the Superb, which may be where you read it. However, they fold in more than the Golf ones (a cost option to get them to fold in less than ours fold in manually)!
and do they have a differently saved position which they move to for parking when reverse is selected? I think I might have dreamed these 2!
If (and only if) you have the electric seat memory, then yes, leaving the mirror selector on "L" (in the UK, despite what the manual says) will result in the mirror dipping when reverse is selected.

there have been posts on here before about the torque limit of the DSG box, I think it's 260 lb/ft but a seach should bring up a definate answer.

I bought my car (well placed order) from Progress Skoda in Bedford - don't know Palmers, sorry.

But I live in the Letchworth area, so it will be handy when they open up the Letchworth dealer (which will then be my nearest, ... erm obviously?)

They seem nice enough people (but then everyone is when they take your money) ... we will have to see.

My Sport DSG is about 14 months old now.

Are you pleased with it DSGboy? Did you bother to run it in?
