Fabia vRS - ESP yes or no

Featured Replies

Just had a test drive  going to purchase if I can wait that long! (4 months).

Any way the question is do I fork out

Welcome to BriSkoda

Do you feel you need the aditional electronic help to keep it on the black stuff?

We wanted ESP, side air bags, cruise and passenger seat height adjuster but the wait was going to be too long, especially when the dealer said he had a standard spec. car already on the boat :)

Thinking about ESP now, it is just more electronics to go wrong as the car gets older. Our last car had ESP and I only recall it working on two occasions in four years. Don't think we would have gone off the road without it to be honest.

Dave

much as i am a lover of esp, i would say no, as i dont think it works that well with fwd. colin(d) any thoughts?

I have ESP on my Fabia vRS but not had the chance to play around with it yet.

Umm..ESP well it's good on roads and in the wet, see it alight quite often.

It's a little slowing on tracks or dry A's where one likes to retain a certain amount of "fun" that the computer otherwise locks down.

Is it worth 400 quid..umm. Possibly not, but then what is worth anything...if you can see a value to it it's worth far more.

I find the ESP far more active on FWD than the 4x4, but then the whole FWD experince is far more involved so yes I would get it again, you can always turn it off and besides you can then get more freebies from the dealer...

With all that said it's a toy really, can be done without and I'm still not sure what "extras" you get other than a changed parameter in the ECU and sensor somewhere.

thats my 2p anyway :D

Well you get traction control as standard anyway which hasn't even come into play yet. To be honest I imagine you'd really have to be a right nutter on the road for ESP to kick in and save you.

And we all know Skoda drivers aren't nutters.................are they?

No of course not - are we Jason!! :D

John.

whats esp stand for .......is it electronic stability program?

 is ESP the same as ASR in the Octy

if it is then it is sh!te and gay, it is a complete annoyance as every time you start the car you have to turn it off!!!!! and when it is off there is a light on the speedo that tells you it is off which is also a big pain in the ar53.

for 400 quid...........................leave it out!!

and it is far too easy to get it to work if you leave it on, car suddenly feels all gay :gay: and starts playing the village people when you go over 45mph!!!!!! and when you use the horn it says "ello sailor"

But no, it's not the same - ESP includes an anti-slip feature, but it adds a "brake one wheel at a time to try to get the car going where the nutter wants it to" function. I feel slightly safer knowing that I've got it, but it's only triggered once, at about 20mph for no obvious reason . On balance, I probably wouldn't pay extra for it.

You might like to know that Robinsons Skoda in Norwich (01603 751050) have vRS stock and also a black demo for sale. Only know that as we test drove one last weekend' date=' placed an order and should pick up our silver vRS within 7 days (just waiting for plate transfer from our trade in) from their stock - complete with side air bags.

Can't wait to get the vRS and get rid of our Pug 206GTI!

Cheers

I'm hoping to go from pug 206 to vRS, did you get a good trade in rate for yours? Not asking how much but was it what you expected? And has the garage put in on there forecourt?

ESP, Electronic Stability Programme.

Quote:

The ESP system improves stability of the vehicle when driving in curves. In principle, it recognises changes in rpm either as too low or too high, reducing the braking pressure on the front axle accordingly, thus enabling the vehicle to stay on track. In the case of wheel slipping, the system reduces pressure on the wheel on the inner side of the curve, thus facilitating better control of the wheels, as the vehicle stabilises on its track.

Well coming from bergen, norway were there is a lot of rain, snow and ice during the year i can tell you that ESP is worth the money. I've had one experience where the ESP system shined and made sure i didn't hit a car. Mind you it was down hill at around 40 km/h at a curve.

There was a report in norway made by the traffic department that calculated that around 70 lives (out of the ca 300 traffic related deaths a year) could possibly have been saved a year if all the cars had ESP as standard installed. With this in mind don't you think it's worth it??
