Any computor techs about??

Featured Replies

I Have a HP Compaq Presario desktop PC.

It is fitted with a AMD Athlon 64 3500 processor speced at 2.19GHz

I have downloaded a program called Everest Home editon from Lavalys. This confired I was running at about 2.19GHx.

I also downloaded ClockGen Wich supposedly enabled me to "overclock" my CPU. Having changed the slider bar to a higher speed, Everest now states that I have a AMD 3800 running at 2419.55 MHz

My question is have I really overclocked my pc to this speed or is this just some kind of trick?

Also I am currently running 2Gb of memory and a Nvidia 6800gt but I am considering upgrading to a Nvidia 8800gt or ultra, would this be worth it yet or am I better of waiting and saving for a new system altogether?

Cheers.

Mind me asking what you use your PC for?

Is it a 939 pin CPU? I upgraded to a dual core AMD 4800 which i'm really happy with.

Are you running PCI-E or AGP for your graphics card? If AGP, I would definitely upgrade.

indeed upgrade, get a real processor like a core2duo :D

I am using it to play games such as battlefield 2142 and will be playing Crysis when it comes out!!

Yes it is a 939 pin socket and yes PCI-E

Do you recomend an upgrade? my plan is to get a 8800 for now in this system, then when I have the money, I will get a new motherboard, CPU and Aim for SLI.

Any Ideas if I have overclocked my CPU??

8800 sounds excellent - go for it.

Re: overclocking, plenty of utilities out there that will tell you. Try Sensorsview pro - that will give your clock speed amongst other things. Also try Performance Test from PassMark PC benchmark and test software and PCMark or 3DMark from Futuremark. All free to try.

or just look at windows, hold down the windows key and press pause to bring up the little computer description thing and see what it says you have, you can't cheat it.

Hold off a minute!

Do you find your current System quick enough or not?

The 8800 is a very expensive card and if all you are looking at is an it would be a nice card to have why not save up and not splash the cash. That way you can buy a new mobo, RAM, Dual Core CPU and Graphics card when PCIe 2.0 hits the boards.

This effectively DDRs the PCIe bus signals, so allowing 5.0Gb/s per PCIe lane and has been out for a couple of months. It can only be a matter of time before it appears on motherboards.

Have you tried over-clocking or unlocking any shaders/pipes, if there are any on the 6800GT, rather than splashing out on a new card?

Research the power requirements for that card before buying. A couple of 8800 cards I just looked need a PC with a 400/425W power supply - which is more than my Evesham with an Athlon 64 3500 has.

Thanks for the thoughts, I have already upgraded my PSU to a 600W one, when I got my 6800.

I have also clocked it, but I am not sure if There are any more shders or pipelines to be unlocked on it.

Thanks for the replies.

You are going to be running into CPU bottlenecks with the 8800 GTX cards, it means you wont get the full benefit of the card.

I run the 8800 GTX at the moment on a core2duo e6600 and am seriously considering upgrading to q6800 and sli'ing the GTX, theres still games which stutter a bit with all the settings up at the resolution I like to run (2048x1536).
