Should I lower the car??!!??

Featured Replies

:) hi had the usual stuff done to the car arb, remap and mintex front discs but I still dont feel as safe overtaking than I did in the old mk1 octy vrs.

will having some lowering springs make the car feel more stable round back roads???

I know some folk here advise against it but if I cant improve this Im maybe looking at returning to the silly mpg and investing in a mk2 octy vrs!

any advice would be appreciated.:) :) :) :)

If you already have the rear ARB, then don't expect too much more from the springs. The real advantage of the uprated suspension is that they prevent the pitching and diving under acceleration and braking......

IMO would change the suspension before going near the engine, but you've already done that so you'll have a top motor if sort the bouncy bits too. :D

I meant change dampers aswell, harder springs are gonna get you into trouble if they not controlled right.

Go for Eibach springs. Fantastic peice of kit.

The Eibachs do a good job and are a bit more athletic than the standard springs.

IMO it's not worth doing the job without doing the dampers at the same time. Otherwise, it'll bounce like crazy on the back roads.

Another option is to get coilovers fitted. KWs seem to be the weapon of choice.

Dissagree completely. I didn't have Dampers. And my car was very well set-up. No jumping at all. So IMO...It doesn't make much difference...

I have 20mm lowering springs only aswell and i dont find it jumps or anything. Drives pretty nicely. If i had the extra money for coilovers or dampers then i probably would have gone for them aswell, but i couldnt resist the

i have the weitecs too on standard dampers, another thumbs up for the kw's........sorry i mean weites

If you don't feel safe overtaking with 190bhp, than in a mk1, then perhaps you need to think about the gearing? The power is there in similar amounts (unless you had a well tricked out octy) and in the right gear you should be able to perform good overtaking manouveres. I've learned that starting to overtake at over 3000rpm usually means a gearchange mid manouvere, which is not the best unless it is safe to do so. I tend to start at around 2000/2200rpm, then build up some revs so I'm doing around 2500, then floor it, pull out, take her up to 4500 and by then am usually past.

If you need more power, you need to start thinking about uprated turbos, FMICs etc etc.
