Ergonomic issues please discuss!

There are two things that need improving

1) The VRS seats are obviously more contoured but it would be nice if they werent so high on the right side of the drivers seat as every time I get in I buff the right hand padding and I'm worried that over time this will cause furring of the material. Its exacerbated when i park in the garage and you can only open the door a little way.

2) When the speedo goes up fast the fuel gauge tends to go down too quickly! If anyone could solve this I'm sure they will get an honourary briskoda Nobel Prize

I have to agree with the points on the 12v socket. I used to route the cable through the passenger seat belt catch and back round to the socket but it was a pain.

I did find the clutch pedal too close to the centre console when I had walking shoes on (the type of thing I use on residential school trips).

While not necessarily on topic I did find the lack of an external boot release on the classic model a pain when I had two boxes of books for marking as unlocking the drivers door, pulling the release and then going back to the boot a pain.

I did think the radio was improved when the on/vol button was moved to the middle.

I would move the fuel cap opener to a solenoid push button on the dash.

Eletronics near fuel badd.. :P big baaada boom.. even own clothing/body static big baaada boom, so touch the car before going near fuel tanks ((Mythbusters)) :)

would you reckon if the boot release and fuel cover release was made into electronic buttons where the blanks would be... would make it hell of alot easier to use daily:)

Assuming you are reffering to the blanks in the dash, I wouldn't have thought so. Often you are trying to access the boot release/fuel filler cover while standing outside the car so they want to be as close to the door as possible ?

i also presumed you would need to open to the door to open the fuel flap and boot when your outside therefore it not being a real problem...

the crank to make the seat higher hasn't left much room for larger hands to adjust it though...

1. The Aux plug between the seats is a pain!!

2. THE MFD should be like VW's and Audi's. Why is the centre section blanked out? Rediculous!!

3. Dash is VERY black. Needs some aluminium trim like in the new Octavia

4. Climate control

Thats all I can think of

Aux plug in between the seats?! you got a photo of that...

Some nice easy ones for you:

The seat height adjustment lever is too high and is often knocked when entering/exiting the vehicle resulting in the seat height being altered.

The power point socket (cigarette lighter) is in the centre consul which is not ideal for windscreen or dash mounted systems.

The lack of a "dead pedal" on the right side as well as on the left side to rest your foot. My Golf has this and it's a nice little feature when driving with the cruise control operating, it's somewhere to rest your right foot giving easy & quick access to the pedals again. And a "cruise control active" light on the dash (as in the Golf) would be nice as well. ;)

I agree with the height adjustment. I'm forever knocking it as i get out of the car so i always have to put it back when i get in it again to get back to my normal driving position

In my 1.4 16v. I don't like the foot-rest look a like bit that on the right hand side of the throttle pedal. Sometimes when I put my foot down, my right foot might blocked by the foot-rest that stop me to floor my throttle. Unless I lay my right foot dead straight to the throttle pedal, but I find it uncomfortable.

It used to be called a Cigar lighter

Seat height adjuster - too high and catches my fat ****

Seat forward/backward adjuster - hangs over a bit too much for my liking

Hazzard light button - too far away to quickly hit when a hazzard presents itself

Heater Controls - too far away, looks like your grabbing your passengers willy.

Cooled can holder under the steering wheel - the sliding thing for the air flow always slips back to the closed position.

Dash reflects quite bad into the front window on sunny days.

Too much black on the dash

No cupholders as standards

MFD MPG lies!

Cant think of anything else:rofl:

Ah yes and difficulty seeing the instrument display if you go under trees, etc. Could be either backlit or "luminous" paint.....

Chris

switches for heating and air adjustment in most akward place ever, makes it dangerous when driving at speeds and you wanna change temp etc. radio not easiest to operate either and yes volume in wrong place for driver. arm rest would be great

Plus you can't see them.....they're so dim when illuminated and on. I end up having to squint at them and look down to see if my A/C is on or not.

Perfect viewing for the people of Lilliput that live in your ashtray but that's about it.

As soon as I got the car I noticed that problem. Pi55es me off something rotton. Within about 3 days I was determined to put an LED up to the dash so that I could see easier if the thing was on or not. I might do it in a few weeks after my exams if I can sus it out:D

Cup holder is way too far back (unless its meant for rear passengers?).

I would prefer the dash if it swooped down into the central console (similar to the Octavia) rather than looking separate. No other real issues I have noticed being a passenger in my mate's vRS.

work was handed in on time this afternoon! loads more relaxed and only one more project to worry about due in on tuesday:) thanks again!

I Hope We Passed!!!!

Are we doing your home work for you, Leon? :P:rofl:

Chris

Hello Leon. Only just seen this thread, so hope you get a good mark :)

Can we still add to the list, maybe for next time? If so:

The clutch travel on VW and Skodas is too long - compared with a Peugeot, say. Seat has to be forward, more than wished, and knees coming up under the steering wheel.

The "A" pillar is either too thick or in the wrong place re vision whilst turning corners. (Have to un-ergonomically move backwards and forwards.)

The boot-release lever is too short (or flat?), so it's hard work on my 1.4. If it were converted to an electronic switch, it'd be nice. It'd be another expensive sensor to go wrong though, but that's only relevant re the market a car is aimed at.

PS Re dash lighting, I'm sure it was a Peugeot that had a brightness control :)

I think most cars have this (pretty sure the Fabia did too!) but it relies on the lights being on......

Chris

Having returned to a Fabia, I find the windows/locking controls on the driver's door too far back.

They don't ever seem to be in natural, comfortable reach without moving your arm/wrist. I think they should be further forward, on angle facing you would be nice. Maybe it's just me?

My biggest annoyancies are...

- Head light/fog light button is to far away. It Should be a function on the indicator stalks

- Needs stereo controls on the steering wheel

- A permenant clock would be nice!

- The stereo screen is rubbish. Would be better if the information was displayed in the intrument panel

I agree with this one to an extent as when the features are there it is such a nice thing to have, but, they are annoying if they dont work with an after market radio
