How long do the DVLA take to transfer plates?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently purchased a VRS from a Skoda dealer which is now sat waiting. The reason for this is Skoda are transfering my private plate from my current car. The paperwork was sent to the DVLA last tuesday, I was supposed to pick the VRS up tomorrow which is obviously too soon.

Does anyone know how long this process normally takes so I can have a rough idea when I will be able to pick the VRS up?

Thanks

Rik

Can't you pick the VRS up anyway?

They should tell you the date the transfer is effective so you can change insurance.

I think mine took 2 weeks from choosing the car until the day I picked it up:thumbup:

Can be up to 10 WORKING DAYS, if the stealer was on the ball he could help by taking it to the local DVLA office. if our experience is anything to go by its a lottery as to when you will get it so keep chasing

The logical thing is them to goto the local DVLA office on your behalf, as above. Then it can be done there and then. Took me 1hr 30mins last time I visited our one - tis a bit of a lottery for how long it takes though. Going in the middle of the month is a good idea, on a weekday mid-morning or something. Hopefully avoiding other dealers, taxi drivers, HGV licensees etc.

Mine took 4 weeks!

Yeah, when I did my last transfer, off the Seat, it took that long by post. As I didn't have any available time to go down to the local office.

I wouldn't mind particularly, but the amount of money they take for sorting it out, the least you can expect is some efficiency

I have been told 10-14 days. They have scheduled me in next wed to pick up the VRS which would then be 11 days so fingers crossed it will all be ready.

Is the car un-registered at the moment, or does it have a standard plate on it currently?

Thats with me chasing and going ape ****e after going to pick it up and it not being transfered so taking it home with the normal plate on

The Skoda has a standard plate on. I called the DVLA today and it should be ready between friday to wednesday.

So why didn't you get the car when it was ready, and do the transfer whilst enjoying the car, if it's got a plate?

Still don't understand why the dealer didn't just sort it out at the local office  - I know other dealers who have done this for buyers.

I was due to pick up my LTD ED on monday14th May on friday before weekend the dealer told me it was now going to take 7 to 10 days to transfer my plate from my current VRS to the un registered LTD ED some thing to do with a V55 i thought the dealer would at least have it all seen to as the car was ordered 10 weeks ago.My LTD Ed is now sitting all alone at dealers. Still steam coming from my ears

My retention certificate just arrived yesterday and i only sent that off a couple of weeks ago maximum. (I was deliberately not watching the calendar so i didn't get stressed about the time it took  )
