My 1.9 TDI manual started to make very strange noises yesterday. Took it to the dealer 1st thing this morning. They took it straight off the road and this afternoon I have been told that they found a hole in the side of my gearbox and quite a few bits of the gearbox in the under-body pan. Car drove OK but sounded awful.

New gearbox being fitted under warranty.

Car is just over 32 months old with approx 30,000 on the clock. Ouch!

Assume this was the manual, not the DSG Autobox ?

Thank goodness it didn't happen out of warranty !

If one of the OEM rivets on the diff lets go, it can make a hole in the gearbox - this can happen with excessive wheelspin....

Could be a failed DMF.

Got is back on Wednesday, problem turned out to be a shattered flywheel.
