I finally got around to fitting my cupra r splitter and my seat strut brace. I was going to have got the splitter colour coded, but im glad I didnt as it looks good with the other black plastic. I did it with my two friends Jack and Jack (car jacks that is) Though it did start to rain whilst I was fitting the splitter but I didnt let it stop me!

Im pleased with the strut brace as it looks factory fit. I did have the Forge brace on but I wanted to re fit the cover so it all looked standard. As the cover slighty rattled against the Forge brace when fitted. Though it is a quality piece of kit if you are not bothered about fitting the engine cover. When I get around to it, I think I will put the forge brace on ebay and sell it.

I think my next mod will be to get a custom smic made ready for the summer:D

Looks good mate

looking good!!

the more i see cars with the splitter, the more i wanna fit one :D

Fit one mate! Only

I must admit, with my new bling wheels, a splitter would look good.

I am just a lazy twonk, and I can think of better ways to spend an hour laid on my back.

Strut brace looks good..........they're good for towing as well, allegedly.

Looking good, but why a custom SMIC when a FMIC kit is available?

Looking good mate, i think the splitter is a must do mod. and for around 20 quid including fixings it is a cheap mod which totally changes the front of the fabia.

i found it easier to fit with the bumper removed.

Just watch those self-tappers, mine started to rust after only a month... Gonna drill and rivet when I get some free time....

Lose the K&N sticker, you'll be wanting a big bore 4 next lol

It might be to indicate to a mechanic - don't throw the proper filter away and replace it with a paper one!

I just want to see if a side mount can be improved without having to fit a front one. I suppose its because its probably(?) not been done before by anyone as most go the front mounted route.

I place the K&N sticker on there for the benfit of garages when they service the car. As one mechanic tried to throw it away one time!

I think as regards the screws, I m going to place a smear of silicone grease over the screw heads to protect them a bit.

Hi 53,

Did you spray/paint the strut brace silver?

Just use stainless steel screws or zinc galvanised ones, you can buy them just as easy from DIY places.

Although riveting is the best option when you think about it

Looking good so far :D

Do you have the part number for the splitter and where you got it from? (I know Seat do sell them but I've had scary quotes in the past).

Hi 53,

Did you spray/paint the strut brace silver?

Yes, I got it colour coded by my local paint sprayer for not alot of money.

My only concern with rivets was if it got ripped off by a rabbit or something. I drive mostly on country lanes and I always see the little buggers sat at the side of the road waiting to run out in front of me!! Screws would be easier to undo to fit a new one. Rather than having to drill the rivet out.

Yes, I would also like the part numbers and costs?

Also, does the strut come silver?

If you just go to any Seat dealer and ask for a Leon cupra R splitter they will know what you are after. Most keep them in stock as they sell a lot of them. I wonder why:confused: :D

The splitter part number is 1ML805903 and they cost

Thanks 53 I thought it might be painted, looks good.

I'm going to have a go at chrome plating one, see how it looks. When I get round to it i'll post a picture.

If you are after a chrome plated / silver one. Why not go for the Forge strut brace. I took mine off as it wouldnt fit properly over the engine cover. But it may save you a penny if you are not bothered about the engine cover and looks equally as good.

I have been looking at those but on your comments about the engine cover its not what I would like. On paper its an obvious choice but I would rather have the engine cover on then off. Is that why you swappped from the forge brace?

Chrome plating wont be a problem and it wont cost anything so its only a matter of taking the paint off the new one. I'm not looking for a polished finish either, a matt finish will do so taking the paint off with a steel brush will do that instead of shot blasting.

Does anyone know what its made of? I'm assuming mild steel or carbon steel but it would be wise to check before buying one just in case it cant be plated.

It is why I opted for the swap as I wanted the engine cover back on.
