Door rubbing strips

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about removing the rub strips off the doors but wanted to know whether they are stuck on or clipped? Help most ppreciated

hi, i've been told by the local bodyshop that they're stuck on cos I'm also removing them, but to be color coded. I would like to leave them off, but can't trust those ignorant gits in the car parks who open their doors onto peoples car. Had a gouge took out of front door strip last weekend by this old person, wi me sat in car. Was not happy! but lucky!

They're stuck on, definitely. But the door isn't smooth underneath - it has grooves along the doors. If you've seen a base model (taxis often are) you'll know what I mean.

Thanks very much, Yeah Rob, I now know what you mean had a look today :)

I'm considering this.

They are stuck on but look a bugger to get off.

Those who have removed them, consider it a good move!!

Hi Dale mine are removed and all that holds them on is double sided tape, just warm them up with a hair dryer and peel them off then clean off the glue residue with tar and glue remover

I got as far as removing my drivers side rubbing strips last summer, but it was such a pain in the *** job to do that i've still got the passenger side to do.

It took me about 3 hours to get all of the glue off the front door and about 4 hours on the back door!

I tried petrol, white spirits, sticky stuff remover, bug and tar remover and car shampoo!

Be warned, the glue is tough stuff!!

Lol! i've took about 5 sets off previous owned vw's and mates cars  its well tough but if you apply a little heat like Dan says its easier to take it off.

I'm gonna take this on :D

I'll shoe you the blisters on my fingers too ;)

Perhaps, I did mine over the summer in 25+ degree heat but maybe the hair dryer would have helped.

Will remember that for when I get around to doing the passenger side :)

Servisol Label remover that you can get from Maplin etc, is good for the glue.

Hello,

Removed the door strips on my black magic Octy vRS. IMHO looks a lot better. The upside is you don't have to mess about anymore treating the rubber strips with any kind of trim care products.

The downside is it is bloody hard work removing the glue

It took me several hours with AG Intensive Tar Remover. Not a job to attempt unles you are willing to finish it as it does get a bit frustrating with the apparent lack of progress. Bear in mind that if you are using anything to help remove the glue, (fingernails, credit card, fish wire) the paintwork can be easily scratched and that kind of defeats the object of removing the strips :(

Good luck. You'll need it along with patience and strong fingernails.

Cheers,

Darren

Got any pics?
