Fabia wishbone rear bush help please

Featured Replies

We have 3 Fabias all of 2000 vintage all with mundane engines and each of them has needed a new anti-rollbar. At least the updated design stand a chance of withstanding sleeping policemen as the bush locators are now welded and not glued in place. However one of the cars has worn rear bushes in the console for the lower suspension arm. The design seems flawed in that braking and accelerating creates lateral movement in the bush whereas the solid part of the bush is vertical - presumably to meet the needs of going over bumps in the road.

Does anyone know if the revised bush listed for Fabias overcomes this design weakness and whether these bushes will fit the control arm and console please on my earlier car? If not can you recommend a more durable design from the VAG stable or aftermarket please. (I am not after rock hard suspension - I do not want to encourage my son to drive faster!)

Finally does anyone have the part number for the relevant VAG extraction tool?

Thanks

Moved to Fabia section.

all the Fabia variants have the same rear console bush fitted , to my knowledge only the Seat Ibiza Cupra has an uprated one , these are retro fittable to your vehicle(s) , but as they are a solid bush they do transfer more road noise into the car , but the extra steering feel with less vagueness outweighs the negatives in my opinion

unfortunetely they may make your son drive faster

Powerflex do a polyurethane bush set for the Fabia/Ibiza. PM AwesomeSarah for more details.

Also try a search, well covered on here.

The powerflex rear bush mods are just inserts to fill the voids in the standard

Costs a bomb (OK.. relatively a bomb) and sometimes falls out unless tie-wrapped in.

The sure-fix is to fit SEAT Cupra bushes though that's not too cheap including labour.

Hum, sounds like I'm glad I did not try the Powerflex "bushes", the parts guy at my VW dealership reckoned that the bits of tooling needed to do this work cost at least

No, they are replacement bushes. Awesome site shows Powerflex part PFF85-402 @

Unless Powerflex have jusst changed them, they are NOT replacement bushes, they are just inserts to fill the voids in the standard bushes

Really??? That's really poor. I put Powerflex ones on my 318iS. They were a complete item....well, they came in 2 bits, an inner and outer part but they replaced the whole bush. Shame they were purple too. Totally obvious you'd changed them.

For Fabias/Ibizas/Polos they are nicknamed as 'udders' as they are are like cows udders to hammer into the voids of the standard bushes.

Solid Cupra bushes are the way to go on a VRS with poly front bushes

Considering the toolage and work involved in changing these bushes, i quite like the idea of the powerflex ones push in and tie rap in place.

Toolage? You mean a big hammer? :D

The idea of pressing them in seems a nightmare hence I took mine in to be done.

Can't believe they just fill the voids though. I'd get the Cupra ones instead then if it were me. Shame they're still only just rubber and not poly.

Big hammer, big press/vice anything i can lay my hands on!

Mine were done a few weeks after i bought the car, i think they bodged the drivers side console removing the old one. Wont be going to said dealer again and will prolly just replace the console with a complete new one.

Does anyone know if the consoles are available from seat with the cupra bushes already in, or are they different to the vrs ones with the cupra having a wider front track?

cheers jonh

As mentioned elsewhere ric has just fitted a pair of Cupra consoles to his vRS.

Sorry must have missed that
