Probably been covered before - but my RS has drunk 2 litres of oil in 9000 miles...... does this sound right?

my last one wasnt this thirsty for oil! i mean im not alarmed..... just checking if this is normal?

What is alarming is the cost of oil in halfords- the "VW group" stuff

Yep, that does sound normal. There are owners on here that have used well over double that much!!

Aparantly, as the miles rack on, the oil consumption gets less.

The oil consumption doesn't slow down with mileage, in fact mine seems to be getting worse, you just get used to it.

I'm affraid you are not alone, some are luckier than others with oil consumption but unfortunately the TFSi does like the brown stuff, and as you point out it ain't cheap :(

yup gargled away nearly 2 ltres in 8,5k

2.5 litres (plus service change) in 21k miles...I wonder what that grinding noise is!

I was expecting worse but mine seems ok - touch wood.

Have to say after checking oil on 1-2k it was thirsty, but now at about 9-10k it's what i would say near normal....a little used, but nothing to be concerned about, and if anyting very normal.........1 litre used in this time...

My diesel engine is thirsty too , more when I drive at high speed for a long distance , it is about the driving stile high revs demand more oil and gas.

Handbook says oil consumption can be 0.5L per 1,000km !! (That's 1250 miles per litre).

Personally, I have just put my first 0.5L top up in my vRS TDI at 3,000 miles

Mine needed 1lt in the first 10k miles. It was serviced at 10k and theres about another 4k miles on it now, IIRC the oil was half way on the dipstick when I checked a week or so ago.

The TFSI in my A4 seems to do ok... 1.5l over 18K which isn't that much really. Also impressed with the fact that it went to 18k for is first variable service, considering how hard the thing gets driven.

Well I ve done 32 000 miles and it has just had it's second service, I ve topped it up with 5 litres of oil in that time.

Same here - 2500 miles and only a cupfull of oil has been needed.

I have just gone past the 10k mark and have just finished my 2nd 1 ltr bottle, which i didnt think was too bad. Just out of interest, what brand of oil does everyone use? My first top up was Shell helix, and the second was from the dealer which came with the bag was Castrol slx II, which was about
