Cambelt at 40k?

Featured Replies

Just called All Electric in Kings Heath for a service quote on mk1 Octavia VRS estate - car's done 36k but 40k (I guess) service is due in June.

Anyway,

It's also on age, e.g. every 4yrs so you could in theory leave it until January.

Skodas recommended interval is now 60k or 4 years, whichever occurs first. DO NOT try and go to the old recommended 120K, they reduced the change interval because of engine failures.

Was that changed relatively recently? I ask as my garage are still using service sheets that suggest a change at 120k (form has a revision of 05/05). Admittedly it does say check at 60k, every 20 after and replace as necesary though.

4 years or 60k. Anything more is engine suicide.

Gah. I was hoping not to have to do the cambelt this year. I know full well about the damage one could cause, though, having had my belt snap on a Mk3 golf in Jan 06...

Timing could have been better though - just changing jobs, no money etc etc.

:(

The change was published in a Technical Bulletin dated 19 May 2006. See the thread below.

Yup, just had mine done at Awesome GTI, bang on the 4 yr mark... even though my car has only done about 45k. Also think about changing the water pump and tensioners at the same time.
