Hello i'm thinking of doing the throttle body alignment with my laptop and vag com but I dont know if I really need to do it .

The car has remapped by APR and I myself have fitted a carbonio air filter so I have disconnected the battery to do this and then did this again recently to check the security of the air filter .

So the question is do I need to align the throttle body or not?

Some examples of reasons to perform a TBA:

The vehicle's battery has been disconnected and re-connected

The ECU has been removed and reinstalled

The Throttle Body has been cleaned or removed and reinstalled

The Accelerator Pedal has been removed and reinstalled

Ok, now you have me concerned. I chucked a new battery on the other day. Do I need to reset the throttle bodies? The car runs ok, does seem a little lacking in the ooomph dept but that could just be me. Can I do it without vag com if I need to do it?

Timo, no, you can't do it without VAGCom, although it used to be believed that you could.

If the car is running is this something that does need to be done, or would it be really noticable should it need doing. As was discussed on one of the vwvortex articles, this can't be something that needs doing all the time, as dealers would be flooded with requests for everytime someone did a bit of DIY. Good money spinner but impractical.

Ok I used Vag-com and realigned the throttle body and I have got to admit it made a hell of a difference , so much so that the girlfriend nearly went straight across a roundabout instead of round it .

So to anyone thinking of doing this or has disconnected their battery recently my advise is DO IT!!!! You will notice the difference .

Very easy it four 5 or 6 mm allen bolts holding it on theres a gasket you will need as well costs about 50p

so air filter assy off, then its easy to get at?

Last night i aligned my throttle body with program called vwtool.The only difference i can see is the idle is just a touch faster.

I think you would have known if you needed to do it really the car would run like 5hite

Think of it as a calibration, telling the ECU the exact position of the flap.

I had another run today.The car seemed to pull quite abit better through the gears.

I just did a Throttle Body Alignment and the go pedal now feels better supplying the power. Before it didnt seem to do much till i had pushed it down a bit, but now its instant.

Thats the only ay i can explain it.

I can't remember if i had the battery disconnected to put my stereo in, but it will be to install the carbonio CAI i'm about to order. Any one in edinburgh area with vagcom? plus i was reading somthing about reseting throttle body by opening drivers door and bonnet then turning on the ignish but not starting the engine? sounds a bit strange to me.
