Does anyone have any views on buying a car on Ebay and also is this a good un with regards to price mileage etc. What do they normally go for and what would you expect this one to do?

Any advice welcome, thanks.

Shaun[/quote']Shaun the octy looks good but personally i would try to arrange a veiwing, i have bought goods off of Ebay and most items are as described but with a car i would be very careful.......In its defence though it is mot`d and taxed fully serviced and has a cambelt change, lot of owners though, it really depends on the final price.... go careful and welcome to the slippery slope of BRISKODA...

A quick vehicle check reveals :

Manufacturer Skoda

Model OCTAVIA SLX

Body type estate

Colour Silver

Fuel type Petrol

Date manufactured 31 December 1999

Number of previous owners 2

Last owner change 10 January 2004

Go and look at it first before any bidding though... When I was using ebay to look for cars I never treated it like an auction, more of a nationwide car classifieds. ;)

Manny's details though at least prove the car is what it says it is - you just need to look at it to check for anything suspect on it.

also, i see it hasnt yet met the reserve price so if not alot of people bid for it the seller can refuse the sale if he doesnt get the price he wants.

It certainly looks to be in good condition. The mileage is relatively high at 20K a year, but would be acceptable if adequately reflected in the price paid. Apart from checking the price in Parkers (and adjusting for mileage), it would be worth checking too on Auto Trader Interactive to see what sort of prices are being asked for similar cars. But view and test drive before making a bid, work out the maximium you are prepared to pay, and stop at that figure when you reach it. There are literally millions of secondhand cars out there waiting for new owners.

NB Looking at user feedback, the person selling this car would appear to be a dealer. I wonder if he is using eBay's conditions of sale to avoid his legal responsibilities in law as a car trader?

Alternatively if it is cheap enough maybe you don't need the viewing and test drive ?
