how many miles on a clutch

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2000 Vreg felicia 1.3 and just wondering how many miles a clutch should last..The previous owner had owned the car from new and told me after i had bought it that it was still on its first clutch.. The clutch feels good pulls away great even on an incline..My only reason for asking is i have a long journey to do next week and am hoping its not ready to go on me...I am in the AA for peace of mind...

The mileage on the engine and clutch is 109000 miles:(

If driven 'properly' a clutch can last for ever really.

I've had dodgy Citroens with the same clutch at over 200k miles

Clutch life is very dependent on driving style. The Felicia clutch has manual adjustment.

yep- deffo dependant on driving style.

If it feels ok day to day-then not a lot to worry about.

just dont dragrace escorts at the lights!

Clutch on all of my cars has been fine until now (one had 141K on the clock and it was still excellent) - however my current Felicia 1.6 has always had a dodgy clutch, and is finally packing up - I have it booked in tomorrow. Too many previous women drivers!!

Another one who reckons clutch life is down to driving style, where the car's used and the like rather than being a predictable miles.

I knew of one old woman who got something like 2_000 (yes two thousand) miles from a clutch, but her usual driving style was to hold the engine at 4_000rpm, and control the acceleration rate by very slow clutch engagement. OTOH neihter my dad not I have ever had to have a clutch replaced, and we've had cars with over 100_000 miles on them, towed, and driven "enthusiastically".

i like to think of clutches as consumables, he he he

I know that my car has is on its third clutch in just 62,000 miles... thanks to the old man that owned it previously... luckily the one thats in now he had put in just before he got rid....

I once knew an old woman that had a similar style of driving as described above... although she used to almost redline the car, and that was to jus manouvre round a car park... always stayed clear... dreaded the though of her foot slipping off the clutch!!!!

You could hear her coming from quarter of a mile away, and smell where she'd been about 30s earlier!

Yup! thats the one... i just dont understand.,.. i mean they usually take their cars to the same garage too these folks... what must they have thought... why they dont just go and buy an auto... cos they clearly cannot manage a manual... either that or they shouldnt be driving at all!!!

I wonder if it's the same person? You from Dumbarton Phil?

No im not... cant be the same person then.

I knew of her when i lived in Bridlington (east coast).

But im sure there are plenty of them around... God help us all!!!

I get around the UK for hols and work, but I've only ever encountered the one. I was asking cos they do seem to be mercifully rare. And the last time I saw her, she was in a 2-tone car, green paint and blue smoke!
