How much does the Fabia vRS improve with run in?

Featured Replies

I have read in some places that the TDI 130 engine gets much better as it has several thousand miles on. I currently have about 750 on mine, can I expect much improvement over what it is now?

What (if any?) improvement did you notice from 0 to 750?

Mine has now done 10,500 and is running better than ever!

I have heard that PD engines usually take between 6,000 and 10,000 miles to run in fully, so you should notice an improvement for a while yet. ;)

graeme have you had your service yet? if so how much oil did it take? sorry to go off topic

my vrs has done 5000 miles now and comparing with the new ones i drive at work its bedded in quiet nice.

Generally speaking all Diesels take thousands of miles to run in/loosen up, our Octy took about 20,000 to really loosen up.

Also Diesels have a habit of using a little oil when new so suggest you carry a litre in the boot just in case the oil light comes on, it always happens late at night in the middle of no where. Ok you should check the oil every week but how many people actually do.

Remember if your Diesel is on long life servicing then it needs special oil & your average garage wont carry it. In an emergency you can add any good quality oil up to 1/2 litre I think but this will shorten the time to the service.

Mine is running really smoothly now, its done 4000 miles so far

There is definitely more pull now - and it should get better and better I think

I'm using BP ultimate and that has contributed to the smoothness

Not serviced yet. Doing it this week at work hopefully. I'm gonna get 5 litres just to be on the safe side.

Completely agree with mobtob to. BP Ultimate has helped loads with the quitness and smoothness of the engine. A bit of Millers Diesel Power Plus helps too.

Mines now at 3600 miles and there is quite a difference. Bit more poke and a smoother now than it was at first.

The last Fabia took a while to fully loosen up. 15k at least.

Graham - are you doing all your own servicing on the Fabia?

I brought a gallon of GTD Magnatec, and the whole can filled it to the upper mark.

You didn't did you....!?!?!? GTD Magnatec doesn't meet VW 505.01 You really do need to use the correct oil in a PD. The pump injectors run off cam lobes and because of the incredibly high pressure that's achieved, the nose loading on the cam is very high. Ordinary oils can't retain a film under these conditions. You will kill the engine if you run it on anything but the correct spec. oil.

Doh! Get it flushed!
