Rallyflapz on Black vRS Estate

Featured Replies

After some questions as to if they fit on an estate, Yes they do and did not have to make any modifications at all!

It was quite easy to do and managed to do it without taking the wheels off, just jacking the back of the car up so the rear wheels droped a bit gives you all the room you need.

I was not sent all the correct parts mind you, there were 2 nuts, bolts and washers missing so spent most of the morning driving around trying to find some that match :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn: . I also was ended up with some other fittings left over that the instructions did not cover and i could see no real use for them:confused:  .

Mind you, after all that i think they look really good, better than i was expecting. They seem much more discreet in black than they do in blue and red (the only others ive seen!). Almost as if they are supposed to be there;):D .

Car has just been cleaned so cant tell if they work as yet, will keep you posted as to how good they are at keeping the crap of the side of my car!!

They do look better than the blue/red ones IMO but still not for me I'm afraid. I understand why you need them Ian but if it was me I would just clean my car more often instead, or try the plastic moulded ones (although I understand they may not be as effective or may require some cohersion in the fitting!).

The rally ones just remind me too much of old Subaru Imprezas with Lexus look light clusters :)

Doesn't matter what I think though as long as you're happy with them, which you are, then that's great.

I took mine off my silver vrs yesterday and its looking a lot better for it

Nice job Ian; just be careful when reversing to a kerb!!

The rear ones look ok to me, not sure on the front though.

The problem is, the rear ones look like a simillar size to the standard oem ones I have on my Elegance combi, and will proberbly be just as unaffective. The spray and crap still gets all over the back of the car when its wet.

Forgot to say, great looking car Ian. I do like the VRs estate, reminds me a bit of an S4 Avant.

The Mk 1 Octy vRS came with plastic flaps already attached which were commendable. I think this is a point that needs to be adddressed on new vRSs. Not a fan of Rallyflapz BTW, but each to their own.

Can't say I'd ever noticed on the Mk I but will make a point of looking next time I see one.

Some people don't actually want mudflaps though.

Here you go...

The RallyFlapz are about 10cm longer than OEM one (Mk I or II); hence they will be more effective.

You will NOT be able to keep the spray/dirt off the back of an Estate (or most hatchbacks for that matter) with mudflaps of any size as the spray swirls back onto the rear of the car in the low pressure vortex created by the aerodynamic flow of air over the car.

I have, interestingly, notice that compared to my Fabia on which I had to use the rear wiper all the time, on my Octavia Hatch the airflow keeps the rear screen clear of water/spray and the spray only gets onto the rear bumper and vertical section of the bootlid.

Mudflaps will only ever keep dirt off the lower section of the side of a car and also help cut down spray being thrown back/up towards following vehicles.

Well its been dry all weekend so not had chance to see hw good they actually are at keeping dirt from going up the side, but its chucked it down here over night and have to go on a fairly large cross country jaunt today so i will report back at the end of the day!! (although chances are i will be able to tell by the time i get to the end of my drive  See pic!)

I have to admit though, i was very sceptical as to whether i would like them and i do understand that they are very like marmite, you like them or you dont. But black on black just seems different, its hard to tell on pictures but you just dont seem to notice they are there, almost as if they are suppossed to be there, even my wife said they look ok and she hated them when i showed her the pictures in the other forums ;).

I am not trying to convert anybody to the 'we like rallyflapz' club, i am just telling you my thoughts. :D

Ok, flapz do exactly what i wanted.....The inside of the flaps are covered in mud and crud etc, side of the car is not   which is a vast improvement!

was that you i following through caernarfon today ianwilly?? i was the green octavia behind you with the silly grin. Pity the blue vrs in front burned off, it was a skoda convoy for a while!

The black flaps look good on the black estate by the way. they looked quite matt now wheras they look quite shiny in the pics above. is that with the road salt or have they toned themselves down from use?

It was indeed, i did wonder if you were a briskodian. The flaps are not quite as shinny as they were new (when clean). When they were new they were coted in a sort of polish (for protection uring manufature??) which soon wore of. The car is also filthy at the moment as i have not cleaned it fo ages which also helps make them look like the should be there. :)
