Apologies if you were upset by it.

North Jersey Media Group providing local news, sports & classifieds for Northern New Jersey!

State officials were investigating Saturday how video of a startling Garden State Parkway accident that killed a South Jersey man made its way to several Web sites.

The video, caught by a state-owned security camera, shows a fiery May 10 accident at the toll plaza in Egg Harbor Township. The video was first posted on YouTube and LiveLeak, a site based in the United Kingdom. Some news organizations, including The Record and The Star-Ledger, later linked to the YouTube video.

Bernard King, 52, of Lower Township in Cape May County was killed in the accident. Police said King had a history of seizures and were investigating whether a seizure caused him to crash.

...

King, who worked in an Atlantic City casino, was driving south on the parkway when he crashed into a concrete barrier and tollbooth. State police estimated his car was going about 65 mph. King was alone.

The auto immediately burst into a fireball. The video shows a police officer, who was working nearby, arriving within seconds. The fire prevented the officer from reaching the driver.

Fire and rescue units quickly arrived at the scene, along with state police units.

Personally I think the chap was dead or in the process of it already, maybe asleep...no brake lights, straight line dead stick almost.

You'd have to not be concentrating for a bloody long time to miss a toll booth area and the signs before hand.

Mercifully quick at least, but god it's scary, makes you think on eh...

for the whole take a break, think about what you've seen I'll leave video link here unless it's reported...in two minds...but I think at the moment it serves a greater message.

Gulp! That's nasty.

No way could the driver have been concious. Surely he must have had the cruise control set and just flaked out.........

Phil

Remember reading of a similar incident when I was a teenager and an elderly bloke driving over the A27 Shoreham bypass had a heart attack, ploughed through the crash barriers at 70mph, and plummeted into the River Adur. Accident investigators ruled that he was dead prior to impact as there were no skid marks left on the road.

Very sobering!

Chris

Seeing that reminded me when I was coming home from a night shift a few years ago.

Cruise control on, heated seat on temperature set just right................................fell asleep and went up the back end of a taxi at 70 mph on the motorway. No injuries luckily, new pants were issused and a messy insurance claim.

There but for the grace of God as they say.
