Fabia warning light trouble

Featured Replies

On my new (to me) Fabia classic 1.2 petrol a mysterious warning light came on in the display. Meant nothing to me but handbook indicated "Engine management system or exhaust gases" drive to nearest Skoda agent. This was a long way away so carried on. Engine functioned as usual with no problems

When I did take it to a Skoda agent the found that the problem was a sensor, removed it cleaned it and put it back and all was well for about 2 weeks, then same problem.

Anyone else with same experience? Do I have the expense of a diagnostic test every time the sensor goes barmy, or can I find what the problem is and deal with it myself. At this rate this electronics is more trouble than it is worth.

This seems to be a fairly common problem. I have been suffering with the engine management warning light coming on frequently since last year. The EGR valve (the indicated problem) was replaced last September, things were fine for 6 months or so but now the light comes on nearly continuously, it will come on, stay on for between a few days and a few weeks, then clear itself for a few days before then coming back on again a few days later.

The EGR valve is still indicated as the problem, this has been checked again, is OK, and it and the throttle chamber have been cleaned several times, but no help, so now, as long as the engine is running OK and there are no other indications of problems, I simply ignore the light.

One option is to get a laptop, the (freely available) VAGCOM software and a suitable cable, then you can diagnose and clear the fault code yourself whenever it comes on.

Much better than paying a garage
