Yes about right 130k+ which is fine really it is a TDI and for that sort of milage has to be motorway driving which = low engine wear.

LOL! Mine had 138k on it when I sold it, only 30 months old, mainly motorway miles :thumbup: The remainder it was thrashed to within an inch of its life :D

Well ok think of this if you buy a car which has 2 owners and it 70k-80k and the last owner has owned it for a year how on earth do you know who owned it before?

In addition due to the fact that IIRC 70% of all new cars are bought for comp cars/hire cars then clearly any one buying a 2nd hand car is going to have had a car which was driven by a comp car driver.

You should also find that most comp car drivers drive them normally as they are given the option to buy at the end of the lease for under market value - which could turn out to be a car for your wife/kids/uncle/mates etc.

Also IF you believe that all comp car drivers thrash their cars (which they dont day in day out) who in their right mind would buy an x demo.... these will have been driven hard from cold day in day out.

Mine was used on track to wind up police drivers who were testing Honda motorbikes as well as showing the police in Mk1 Octy vRS's how much faster a slow old rep mobile was than their cars! Obviously, I wasn't driving :rofl:

IMHO, more fun controlling a less competent car on the limit than a car designed to go fast. After all, you're not there to win anything, you're there to have fun without the normal constraints and considerations of road use...

Why not buy a 1990 Polo G40 super light 115bhp std 135mph 0-60 7.5 seconds

Neither of mine understeered, more of a tendency to oversteer, brakes were fine, never had fade, and it took a couple of track days to shag the tyres :confused:

Then of course there is the fun of driving the unexpected - my little 1.4 16v and my SDI were quite well known for their giant slaying abilities :D

So you like driving a car designed for A-B city car on a race track ...

The Fabia has a very high (relative) centre of Gravity, big understeer, all the weight on the front wheelsnarrow tyres, brake fade and over 90 ish its pretty much given its best.... not the best for a track really is it. Great for the M Ways and odd A road overtakes but taking it to a track is a shame.

A good track car has Low kerb weight, low centre of gravity, wide tyres, high power to weight ratio no constraints for emmissions as its sole purpose is to post the fastest lap that is possible for its power to weight for its category and its driven wheels.

Welshy, not everybody can afford a fast car as well. Others have already mentioned the pleasure to be gained from driving a normal road car well, and the fun to be had from surprising supposedly faster machinery.

I think you have a problem. You want to like fast cars, but the accountant's calculator you have in place of a heart won't let you :P

Due to an interesting tyre combination, mine actually oversteered on the limit. Brakes only faded after 3 or 4 130mph stops on the runway, they were fine for the circuit itself, but they've been replaced and uprated. And the tyres .... well the whole point was to wear the crappy ones on there out so I could replace them but try as we might, they came away with the same amount of tread as I started with. So to summarise, I had an excellent day, learnt how my car behaved on the limit in a controlled environment and the cost was a tank of diesel (managed 34mpg across the whole tank!).

Read the road tests for the Fabia and Octavia and for that matter the vast majority of FWD cars they all understeer and for those with Diesel power the engine weighs more so there is even more understeer.

All manufacturers dial in understeer to FWD cars as its easier for the average driver to control over that of oversteer - the Pug 205 was one which did have lift off oversteer and also had the nick name of widomaker for clear reasons.

Im not saying having a fast car - I mentioned the Polo G40 & Cavalier GSI2000 neither of which are fast cars.

The fun in driving well comes from passing your advanced driving licence

Note - I do have a fast car currently 20VTurbo Fiat Coupe and I wouldnt even bother taking that to the track as its pointless.

Taking your car to a track costs a fair bit

What licence is that, Welshy? :confused: I wasn't aware there was such a thing as an "advanced driving licence". Does it have special endorsements on? Do you get to drive faster than other people?
