Some here have listed cars which they have shamed by passing them - well who knows they may have been on warm up or cool down laps the only way to know for sure is to look at the quickest time for all attending.

You could make it exciting by working out your power to weight and gross it up so everyone has a comparative lap time. 997 Turbo or 1.9SDI tavia

Twas me who listed them :D

were they trying, I'd guess yes from the number of offs, one in an M3 trying to keep up in the wet. Laps unofficially timed by a magazine put me in second quickest after Terry in his Focus. He races in the saloon championship there in it. I'll link you the article if you want?

Oh - Ive just compared driving the A470 to wasting you time & money down at a race meet unless of course you time the laps & do it in fast car which handles well.

Well seeing as I can only travel at a maximum of 70mph on the public roads and have to watch out for other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, speed cameras etc .... OR .... I can pay my

Whose talking about "race meets"? We're talking about trackdays, aren't we?

Or then again why not ask M Schumacher & any car maker why it is important for them to race &/Or build good handling cars - why bother as lots of people driving the cheap cars dont seem to care & they consider it more challenging to drive a poor handling car than driving a good handling car....

 Maybe they're interested in that sort of thing? Not really sure why going on track to practice driving at a car's limits and generally doing stuff you can't do on a public highway is really a waste of money, whether your lap times are getting quicker or not...?

Oi you lot get back on topic... tut tut and two mods involved in the hijack as well...... :thumbdwn: :rotz:

 But I can have a nice drink at home and rather than pay

It's in general car chat, it's a general chat about cars... :)

Surely though the carbon footprint of those cheap cans is higher than walking to your local hostelry and drinking some locally produced real ale?

Shame on you :haha:

No, the thread was about what car could he get for 10K not why you drive round a track. If you don't know the diffence about going off topic you shouldn''t be a mod. Doesn't matter what forum it's in.

But the thread starter initiated that drift off topic... ;)

Jon - slowblackskoda.com doesn't seem to be working. :(

I know what going off topic is, and I really appreciate your patronising tone...

The point is that in general car chat there's not a policy for adhering strongly to the thread topic...if this was required, the thread should've been started in Roadside Hotel, which is where serious, on-topic discussions are for.

Besides which, Welshy seems to be enjoying the discussion, and this is after all what a forum is for. Not for people to say "ooh no, you can't talk about that in here"...

Anyway, stop taking this thread off topic.

Rob.

Fine what ever

Blocked from here too! Must be all that (automotive) p0rn he keeps on there

Chris

Tom, it's you - just tried from 2 different networks :)

Blocked or not functioning?

Blocked or not functioning?

I suspect it's blocked as it just hangs and then times out. Our work policy is pretty lax about allowed websites, so it was a bit of a surprise that yours wasn't allowed through. Works fine from home though....

Chris

I get this:

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for The Slow Black Skoda Site

The dnsserver returned:

Server Failure: The name server was unable to process this query.

You moved servers recently?

Exactly! So you're happy to drink cheap and nasty lager, rather than doing it properly and buying something ludicrously expensive which (on paper at least) is better............

I have it resolving to 209.8.83.157 here. I've never been able to get on it from work, so I always assumed it was blocked.....

Ah the irony.

In all seriousness these days drinking down the pub is stupidily expensive, so opt to go away for a camping weekend lots of beer & wine round the camp fire - for probably the cost of just one of you down the pub for an afternoon.

Ah getting old.
