I have to add that with the Leon it would have to be in that dark grey it certainly looks the best IMHO in that combination.

Drawback for the Leon Cupra R & TDI are that the rev counter & speedo are in white... not good IMHO.

Are there any running cost criteria or is it just Total Cost of Ownership?

My money's on it being either the M5, M3, 330d or 530d (with the last one being the favourite) ;)

Total car ownership. Has to be the most important financail aspect - for those of you who are into finance I want the option which provides the lowest negative NPV in 4-5 years.

Whys the Octavia vRS not on that list? :P

For overall cost of ownership, the ST TDCI is the clear winner.

For fun factor, the M5 is sublime.

I'd love a 330d, but I'd rather have

lotus carlton... seat five in comfort at 175 mph ;) sail past the 155 limited BMW's ;) (on the autobahn...)

For overall cost of ownership, the ST TDCI is the clear

I'm not sure that's true, especially with a new model just out, and after 5 years of use, I can't see that being worth anywhere near as much as the luxo-barges in that list. Could be wrong though.....

Does TCO include running costs too, ie 12k a year, fuel, servicing, tyres, tax, MOT, repairs or is it simply depreciation?

Chris

It'd have to be a shoddy lotus carlton for 10k tho

furby vrs all the way,m5 would be nice but running costs are epic i hear, why not save the extra and get a 535,oh **** i'm becoming obsessed.

If you can stretch to another

thats a bit harsh,:rofl:he hasn't been trolling for a bit now.

Fun car for 10k, umm 3.0 v6 Clio. Thats if you dont include the running costs or the fact it has to be a family car! But for fun ... 10/10 surely. lol.

TCO includes every cost fuel MOT tax tyres servicing depreciation loss of interest on cash (mind you that would be the same for all unless one was bought cheaper.).

I cannot see the ST TDCI being the cheapest as in 4-5 years I doubt it iwll be worth much more than

If you'd bought this 4 years ago - the Furby vRS would have been by FAR the cheapest - they are only just starting to drop in price now.

Not that its wholly relevant,

Have you done any sums for any of them? Surely it comes down to more than maths though?

I know the car I want next is an E46 330d, but thats for more than its cost of ownership :)

The difficulty here is that there are very few places you can get forecast future values of cars which are already 7 years old (BMW M5 in this list etc).

Sure fuel tax tyres general servicing costs and insurance are known but the most difficult thing is the depreciation.

Some of these are going to fall through the floor i.e. Mondy ST TDCI while others M5 E55 etc will fall at a much slower rate.

The other thing to consider is that older cars in this budget will have more going wrong with them but this may be more than compensated by the lower depreciation value.

E46 330d M Sport is a really nice car and brand new its even got that Stop Start mpg saving technology.

Mind you by the time the current 330d is at the

The M BMW's would be starship mileage for 10k. E46 M3's and E39 M5's.

The engines in them require lots of TLC and at that kind of mileage I'd be expecting to have to start shelling out over

You can pick up an Evo VI now for not much more and they're a proper collectors item.

But 4 tyres every 10k, tracker subscriptions, servicing every 4.5k, sub 20mpg and Gp20 insurance will push the TCO well up. Still, you only live once and I'd definitely have one (even if only for 4,499 miles!)

Chris

LOL. Good point. But the TCO of an M3 / M5 can't be much different. Both will put you in a ditch with the twitchy 343/400bhp rear wheel action, both will eat VANOS units, both have huge tyres that will get lunched and both look like you're having a mid life crisis. :D

330d, Mondy ST, LCR / FR150, Octy vRS, or Accord Type R for me.

Accord Type R - Excellent call!

Just try and get one without the spoiler! ;)

Here is the thing though Im not a fan of needing the rev the nuts off a car to keep up with traffic its really not my thing. Hence I love TDI's and Turbo petrols.

This revelation may mean that the M3, M3 Evo and M5 are out of contention.

Can any of you who have owned an E36 M3/M3 Evo please give a fair review of ownership costs on a Motorway cruise 200+miles what MPG can you really except 30/35mpg?

The E36 M3 came in 2 guises as you probably already know. The 3.0 had a single vanos with 286bhp and is pretty much bullet proof. The later Evo had dual VANOS and 320bhp and is notorious for having it's VANOS fail. It's

So the reason the Vanos fails is down to a sub
