Fabia vRS consumption?

Featured Replies

Have you guys calculated your actual consumption?

I have wondered about my vRS's consumption because other drivers here in Finland get 55mpg actual and I get only 46mpg and my driving is very cheap, cruising almost 90% on about 50-60mph on highways, no ultrafast accelerations and lot of motor breaking. And the funniest part is that onboard computer says that consumption is 60mpg. My Fabia is 7 months old, 7500 miles driven and on 215/40/17 tires.

Thanks for answers...

Chris

has it been remapped or anything? It has been said that the newer vRS's are a liitle bit over on the projected mpg. I have an 04 plate one, and when i calculated my actual mpg it was about 4 under what the onboard computer said. However there is a big difference between your 46mpg and the 60mpg being projected. It varies car to car.

Mine is close to spot on most of the time. I often cross check between the on board computer and the manual method and it's never far off!

Mines miles out at least 10mpg on a 56 plate

It's funny how the trip computer panics near the end of a tank.

Arrive at work shows 70 miles to empty,

car in the car park all day not moved,

get in the car to go home it shows 50!

There's a leak somewhere!

i've been saying that for a while , it seems the newer ones , 55/06 on are very optimistic in the consumption figures , my 04 plate is accurate enough for me to be happy with my consumption figures , 23.7mpg for 275 miles whilst at Spa for a track day

55 plate vRS and 44-46 mpg depending on how I drive. Computer normally estimates between 5-7mpg over. And as someone mentioned, trip computer says 100 miles left, go to work, come back to the car and it reads 70mpg!

I have an 04 plate vRS and I've scraped 43.5mpg (measured) over 12k miles.

I often drive pretty conservatively, but the car's like a drug - I boot it now and again to get a fix!! A lot of my daily driving involves crawling/ parking on the M62, so I know my mpg could be better. However, I was hoping to get somewhere nearer the claimed 50-60mpg! The computer sits 3-5mpg higher than reality.

Best out of a tank - 49.2mpg (measured)

Worst out of a tank - 39.7mpg (measured)

Here's my fuel consumption from the past few months. Averaging around 45mpg with a mixture of stop-start driving. I've gone from a 20mile each way commute to a 3 mile commute so the car is never really getting warm anymore (hence the drop in mpg)

Best - 50.32

Worst - 39.05

vrsFuelConsumption.txt

Mine's averaging around 47.5 over the last 2500 miles (according to the trip computer).

I Usually manage 380-420 miles or so before the low fuel light comes on. I usually put 38-40 litres in. Which seems to tally with trippy quite closely.

Best tank has been around 53mpg (42 litres in 490 miles).

Best single journey was 140 miles at 61.5mpg.

I'm at 7 months myself and 8300 miles. Average MPG 54.1 with a high of 57. Trip computer wildly in accurate - 17% out! You should start seeing a lot higher MPG as the temperatures start to rise :)

In a vRS?!? Wow! Do you merely tickle the accelerator pedal?! Well done - that's pretty impressive!

I have averaged 54 mpg over 25000 miles. Amd one clicked (165 bhp)

Best - 74.6 mpg

Worst - 43.8 mpg

The 74.6 was over 12 miles of 30 mph though ! The slower I drive this car the higher the mpg.

...and at 7500 it's not run in yet :)

what's wrong with mine then? I can't get over 47mpg and that's with 90% driving with CC on motorway at no more than 80m/hr...

55 plate with 8000 on the clock.

I get 50mpg when the computer says 53-55.

I use cruise control on all long stretches of clear dual carriageway and put also use 100ml of Millers Diesel Sport Plus per tank.

Check your tyre pressures.....makes a big difference if they are too low. Did a journey recently and my pressures were too low given that the car was laden and couldn't exceed 45mpg, on the return journey, pumped the tyres up to the correct laden pressure and the trip read nearly 57mpg.

Well with only 2000miles on the clock the trip 2 computer is showing 50.3mpg but when I work it out by the mileage done /fuel used when its re-filled it works out around 44/45mpg . I travel 26miles to work ,part A road and 10miles on a dual carridge way at 80ish then 10/15mins in traffic in the town.

cheers for response, I always measure tyre presures as it used to make huge difference on my old Almera as well

Cruise control! The 57mpg (checked brim-to-brim) included a 165mile run up the M5/M6/A500 run (averaging 60mph) using CC computer said 82.6 (I think!) so I was expecting more than 57mpg for the tank (computer said about 71mpg cumulative.)

I was expecting 60+mpg by now - my PD100 gave 63-65mpg by the same mileage (and 72mpg! by 34,000)

I tend to just stick to the change at 2000rpm rule and take advantage of any downhill gradients to accelerate/coast.

I use tyre pressure 35/33psi f/r which give good turn-in - any more and the ride becomes bouncy.

thats where the problem lies , you're going too fast :P , try doing the journey a couple of times at say 55-65mph , just to see what figures you can get , i know it will feel slow , but you will be saving money and the planet

Used 1/4 tank of fuel on the way home last night - suffice to say this was going at some pace ;) I don't think I'll 'beat' that time unless the 50 zone with SPECs is removed :P

So does anybody know if the consumption figures in trip computer can be calibrated thru VAG-COM? Possibly in Octavia II it is possible. My actual consumption is almost 24 % more than what the trip computer says. And I think that's pretty much. Too much?

Once used an entire tank doing 115 miles.

Ok, it was 72 laps of Hullavington

I'm pretty sure mine is doing a genuine 55mpg. At the moment, my fuel buzzer isn't going off before I reach 500 miles, and it will go another 70 further. When filling up it rarely takes more than 40 or 42 litres. One day I will be bothered to make notes when I tank up, but I usually cannot be bothered, and as long as the car is doing the mileage I want it to between fill-ups, and the long term readout says high 50s, I'm happy.
