Gearknob

Featured Replies

A lump of paint/lacquer has got knocked or scratched off my Fabia vRS gearknob.

Anyone know whow much I'll get stiffed for a new one?

I know you can get new inserts for elegance models (chrome) for about 5-6 quid, presumably they're available for the other models too

Cool. I'll give a dealer a ring.

Regrettably it's not that simple (or cheap). The vRS insert is not available seprately. In fact, you have to buy a new kn0b and giater too!

I had exactly the same problem with mine - simple solution was to take my ring off!

Found one on Fleebay below might be just what you are looking for

You're a star. Cheaper than the dealer- bought!

Do they just unscrew?

Pop the ashtray out and remove the middle T20 torx screw, slowly lift the gator and suround up. if you look on the gear stick shaft you can see the whole lot is held in place by a crimped clip. If you separate the clip and tug the whole lot comes off. Refitting is the reverse and you may need a crimping tool, if you havent got one use a small hose clip. hope this helps.

I've had a look, and you don't need to unscrew anything- you can just unclip the gaiter from the plastic. Good idea with the hose clip though.

Glad to be of help let us know how it goes.

Gearknob arrived yesterday- the ebay seller seems very good and specialises in skoda bits.

Changing it it *really easy*.

Pull up the gauter from the plastic surround- it just unclips- then find the crimp clip on the bottom of the gearknob. Either cut it off, or stretch it back out. Lift off the old one, put the new one on, squeeze the clip with pliers (no special tool needed), and clip the gaiter down. Job done.

Can anyone confirm this? maybe have a part number?

The chrome bit on top has split and is sharp, i'd like to change it if possible.

Thanks

absolute doddle, the old one levers out, the new one pushes in, it will be obvious when you have the new one in your hand

I wonder why they don't do the same for other models??
