Booked an advanced driving day

June 30th I spend all day with an ADI who deals with the police as well as joe public. Apparently I have to buy and read up the latest edition of "Roadcraft" as that's what I'll be being taught. Anyone got a copy they can lend me for a couple of months please? :D

The one thing I do want to work on is cornering. I might not show it sometimes but when the road becomes quite similar situation to the road where I had my little off in North Wales, I can get quite panicky. Still not really over that, and I guess it doesn't help driving the same car again too.

Looking forward to it - Apparently I get 25% off at Adrian Flux with it so I'll be ringing them for a quote in December. :)

Congrats - have heard good things about them. Btw, Roadcraft is only 12 quid off Amazon :P

And yes you do get 25% discount with Flux ;)

Chris

Well done Jason. Don't expect to learn everything in one day, though

Good for you Jason

Cornering is so much fun, best part of driving IMHO (even on snow tyres ;) ).

I'm sure you'll enjoy it :D

A post without recommending roof castors?!?!

Chris

Yep :grumpy:

I didn't put that in for a couple of resons:

1) I'm feeling mellow

2) He is doing somthing to improve his driving

3) I know from his post about replacing the rear wings on a Fabia..........

that he is really going to fit outriggers :D

DOes this habe the same sort of content as IAM/RoSPA or is it more performance based?

It's based on "Roadcraft", but I suspect is a more intense course. From the pictures they seem to push performance, but on the road they'll still have to teach within the confines of the law ;)

Chris

Be interesting to see how much you can learn in a day. Nice one good luck.

Got my second IAM drive this sunday. My overlapping has much improved. Just need to slow down more for the hazard.

That's an interesting point. It looks like all the tutors are serving or ex-traffic police so the level of tuition will be very high (certainly higher than IAM or RoSPA observer) and very intense.

I think to get the most out of their time, you'll want to read and digest Roadcraft and try and put some of the things it suggests into practice before you visit them so that you can use them to polish your techniques, rather than teach you the basics which you could teach yourself from the book... if that makes sense? :D

Chris

I have a copy of roadcraft, it makes interesting reading. Also have a book called very advanced driving, which is much the same thing.

Same here, decided to join IAM the other week, pretty funny the guy who took us out in his 1.0l was screaming the engine as if it was normal, the book states not to!!

Still lots to read (and forget) and have even got the roadcraft dvd which seems to make more sense than the book when you see the techniques in practice.

Slowly getting used to driving with 2 hands again and not have one resting on the gear stick ;-)

is this the course to do if you have lots of points?

They won't turn you away like IAM will, if that's what you mean ;)

Well, I have a clean license anyway, so not that it matters. :D

Why not just join the police, work on the beat for about 4 years, decide you want to go into traffic, apply for an advanced driving course, wait another 3 yeras for a place, then get a free 4 week course!

Simple!
